DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – For the second straight game, the Albright Lions field hockey team was dealt another heartbreaking loss in overtime, this time to Delaware Valley by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 1-2 in the early portion of the season. Meanwhile, the Aggies improve to 2-0 on the season overall. The Lions have faced MAC Freedom teams in two of their three games this season.
The Lions controlled play in the Aggies zone for the majority of the first half as they received six penalty corners in the first 14 minutes of action. Albright did not allow Delaware Valley to get a shot off attempt until the 13
th minute of play. Despite that, the Lions were unable to grab an early lead in the contest. The Lions had their best opportunity to score in the first half with 2:50 left on a penalty stroke opportunity from sophomore
Bailey Lehman. Unfortunately for the Lions, Lehman's shot was saved by the Aggie goalkeeper. Things got worse for Albright nearly two minutes later when the Aggies broke the scoring on a loose ball in front of the net to take a 1-0 lead into the half despite being outshot 12-3.
Albright came out firing in the first half with five shots in the first three minutes of the second half. The Aggies then stunned the Lions again with a second goal on a shot that rolled in from 12 yards out to take a 2-0 lead with 29:44 left in the second half. The Lions turned back up the pressure and finally broke through in the 56th minute when senior
Lindsey Hecker scored at the top of the circle off a pass from a penalty corner by sophomore
Jennifer Crumling. The Lions continued to hound the Aggie zone by racking up three more penalty corners in the next six minutes. Hecker then struck again on a goal from the top of the circle that was set up by a penalty corner opportunity from sophomore
Nicole Crumling with 14:27 left in the second half. The Lions continued to press for the last portion of the second half, but could not find the go-ahead goal.
The Lions went to overtime for the second-straight game and came out strong by registering three shots in the first three minutes of the extra period. However, the Lions had two players issued for yellow cards within a four minute span. Up two players, the Aggies shocked the Lions with a game-winning goal with 4:48 left in overtime. Albright held a staggering 30-7 shot advantage for the game with 23 of them going on goal. The Lions also had a 25-0 penalty corner advantage for the game as well.

Aileen Taylor played the first 35 minutes of the first half and made one save. Sophomore
Brynne Schoppe played the final 40:12 of the game and suffered the tough loss after making two saves. Aggie goalkeeper. The Aggies also had two goalkeepers see action as Kita Konerth made 17 saves in 70 minutes of action, while Rosie Bishop earned the win by playing in overtime.
Albright will return to action on Sunday, September 9
th when they will travel to face third-ranked TCNJ at 1 p.m.
