Men's Hoops Falls in Close Battle with First-Place Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Albright men's basketball team hung with the first place team in the MAC Commonwealth for the majority of the night before ultimately succumbing to a 77-69 loss to Arcadia on Wednesday night.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 5-15 overall and 4-8 in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Knights continue to pace the conference as they improve to 17-3 overall and stay perfect in conference play at 11-0.

Sophomore Christian Lane had a breakout game as he poured in a career-high 26 points behind going 6-of-10 from beyond the arc, and 10-of-15 from the field. Classmate Samuel Majekodunmi added 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Senior Jared Rappoport just missed a double-double as he posted nine points, a game-high 11 rebounds, and two blocks in the loss.

Albright started fast as they quickly jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first 1:34 of the game, and eventually worked its way out to an 11-5 advantage at the 16:06-mark after going 5-of-6 from the field during that span. After the Lions went up 14-8, the Knights scored 14 unanswered points to take their first lead of the game at 22-14 with 10:04 left in the first half. Both teams tallied runs of five-straight points to leave the Knights up 27-19 before Arcadia went on an 8-3 run to take a 35-24 lead, their largest of the half, with 1:26 left in the first half. Albright then went on a 7-1 run to close out the half that was capped by a layup to beat the buzzer by Lane, and bring the deficit down to 36-31.

The Lions outscored the Knights 9-4 in the opening 3:32 of the second half to tie the game at 40 before the Knights countered with five-straight points to re-take the lead at 45-40. Majekodunmi tallied five-straight points of his own to tie the game at 45, but Arcadia again answered with five-straight points to go back up 50-45 at the 13:02-mark. Lane hit a three-pointer to make it 50-48 before Arcadia went on an 11-3 run to go up 61-51 at the 6:12-mark of the second half. Lane then broke a drought of 6:17 without a field goal for the Lions with a three-pointer, and would bring the Lions within four points at 64-60 on a three-pointer with 3:53 left in the second half. Unfortunately for the Lions, that would be as close as they would get for the rest of the game as the Knights went 12-of-13 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the game.

Albright shot 43.5 percent (27-of-62) from the field for the game and went 11-of-28 (39.3%) from beyond the arc. The Lions went 4-of-10 from the free throw line and held a slight 41-38 rebounding advantage. Meanwhile, the Knights shot 40.7 percent (22-of-54) from the field and 5-of-13 (38.5%) from three-point range. Arcadia shot 71.8 percent (28-of-39) from the free throw line and forced 21 Lion turnovers that led to 22 points.

Josh Scott led the Knights with a team-high 25 points and seven rebounds, while Da'Kquan Davis added 20 points, five rebounds, and three steals.

The Lions will return to action on Wednesday, February 6th after being idle this weekend, and will host Hood at 8 p.m.
