FREDERICK, Md. – The Albright Lions men's basketball team was unable to overcome shooting troubles on Wednesday night as they dropped an 84-47 contest to Hood in MAC Commonwealth play.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 4-11 overall after suffering their fifth-straight loss, and 3-4 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Blazers improve to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in MAC Commonwealth play.
Senior
Jared Rappoport became the sixth player in program history to achieve 100 career blocks as he matched his season-high with five blocks. Rappoport also led the Lions with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field and seven rebounds. Sophomore
Samuel Majekodunmi was held to five points, while adding four rebounds and two steals. Classmates
Deion Booker and
Lawrence Anderson each added four rebounds in the loss.
The Blazers worked their way out to an early 7-0 lead at the 17:29-mark as the Lions were unable to get on the scoreboard until sophomore
Troy Smoot hit a three-pointer at the 16:38-mark of the first half. Albright continued to struggle shooting as the Blazers scored five-straight points to go up 12-3 at the 14:29-mark. Hood then used an 11-5 run to take a 23-8 lead at the 9:02-mark with the Lions having just three made field goals in the first 11:30 of the game. A three-pointer from Lane ended the Blazer run, but Hood started a 10-1 run to take a 33-12 lead with 6:15 left in the first half. The Lions used a 7-2 run late in the first half to make it a 14-point game at 37-23 until the Blazers closed the half with back-to-back layups to take a 41-23 lead into halftime.
Much like the first half, it took the Lions over three minutes to score points as the Blazers stretched their lead out to 46-25 at the 16:25-mark of the second half. Hood then used a 17-4 run over a span of 2:57 to take a commanding 63-29 lead at the 12:59-mark. The Lions were unable to get under 30 points for the rest of the contest as the Blazers locked up the 84-47 win.
The Lions shot 28.3 percent (17-of-60) from the field and 20 percent (6-of-30) from beyond the arc for the contest. Albright went 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from the free throw line and received 24 points from the bench. Meanwhile, the Blazers shot 43.5 percent (27-of-62) from the field overall and 30.6 percent (8-of-26) from three-point range. Hood went 22-of-34 (64.7%) from the free throw line and held a sizable 54-34 rebounding advantage that led to 11 second chance points. Hood also scored 23 points off 19 Albright turnovers.
Ian Eversull led the Blazers with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, and added eight rebounds along with three steals. Michael Riley posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Anthony Pearson scored 12 points off the bench behind going 7-of-9 from the free throw line.
Albright will return to action on Wednesday, January 16
th when they will host crosstown rival Alvernia at 8 p.m.
