READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions field hockey team was dealt a crushing 2-1 defeat in overtime to Arcadia on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth play at Shirk Stadium.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 5-11 on the season and 1-3 in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Knights improve to 5-10 overall and 2-2 in conference play. This is the Lions fifth loss in overtime this season.
Albright started strong as they got off a pair of shots in the first three minutes. The Lions got a penalty corner opportunity in the seventh minute, and converted on it as senior
Kaley Donmoyer ripped the ball past the Knights goalkeeper to put Albright up 1-0. Donmoyer was set up in the left portion of the circle off a pass from junior
Bailey Lehman. However, the Knights took control of possession for the majority of the remainder of the first quarter and created a few chances. Arcadia came into the game leading the MAC Commonwealth in penalty corners by over 50, and generated eight penalty corners in the first half. Each team only registered one shot in the second quarter.
Arcadia continued momentum into the third quarter, and tied the game in the 37
th minute on a goal from Isabelle Houser. House jammed the ball into the net after an initial shot from the Knights off a penalty corner was saved by Lions junior goalkeeper
Brynne Schoppe. The Knights nearly took the lead early in the fourth quarter as they got off three shots following a penalty corner, but Schoppe was able to stop two of them, and the other one went wide. Albright was unable to generate any shots in the fourth quarter, and the game went into overtime. Megan Keller had a good look in the 66
th minute turned away by Knights goalkeeper Ashton Evans, and Donmoyer had possibly the best chance of the period saved at the 67:46-mark. Arcadia drew a penalty corner in the 69
th minute, and converted on it to win the game at the 68:13-mark.
The Knights held a 19-11 shot advantage for the game, and an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal. Arcadia also held a sizable 17-6 advantage in penalty corners as well. Schoppe suffered the loss after making six saves in net, while Evans earned the win after making six saves. Donmoyer moved into second place on the team with five goals.
