Women’s Soccer Edged by McDaniel, 1-0

READING, Pa. – An 80th minute goal from the McDaniel Green Terror resulted in a 1-0 loss for Albright women's soccer on Wednesday evening at Shirk Stadium.

Albright will end non-conference games with a 6-4 record and McDaniel will improve to 8-2 on the season.

The first half remained scoreless, however, the Green Terror tallied nine shots.  Albright had two shots on goal coming from sophomore Autumn Bieber in the 22nd minute and junior Maggie Jones in the last minute of the first half.

Albright added a shot from junior Lauren Haley in the second half, but could not hold off the Green Terror for the full 90 minutes.  In the 80th minute, McDaniel was rewarded a corner kick and used a short kick opportunity to feed the ball into junior Kristen Worry.  Worry took the ball to the end line and crossed it back to senior Megan Henderson in front of the net, as she finished low and to the left for a 1-0 lead.

The Lions were outshot 20-3 and the Green Terror also held the advantage in shots on goal, 11-3.  McDaniel was paced by junior Maddie Schwartz with seven shots, four on target.

Sophomores Olivia Donkus and Vanessa Baker split the game in the net for the Lions, each posting five saves.  The Green Terror win was earned by sophomore Katherine Carstensen and she made three saves for her fifth shutout.

Albright women's soccer will look to bounce back as they open conference play with a 5 p.m. game on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Stevenson University.
