Lapidus Scores Against No. 1 Messiah on Senior Night

READING, Pa. – On Saturday night in Shirk Stadium, senior Jillian Lapidus netted the lone goal for the Lions against No. 1 Messiah – the Albright women's first goal against the Falcons in history – for a final score of 2-1.  The game also took time to celebrate Albright seniors Bree Bowles and Lapidus.

The Lions will fall to 9-7 on the season and 3-3 in MAC Commonwealth play.  The Falcons continue their winning streak and improve their conference record (15-1-1, 6-0-1).

Just 14 seconds into the game, junior Lauren Haley found her way behind the Falcons' defense to get a shot on goal and Messiah's junior goalkeeper Lydia Ewing dove for the save.  Junior Maddie Kohl dribbled down the right side of the field in the 28th minute and crossed the ball to first-year Shelby Burger who picked up the first Falcons goal for a 1-0 lead.  With three minutes left in the first half of play, a Lions foul in the box gave Messiah a penalty kick, which junior Claire Brier was able to convert for a 2-0 lead at halftime.

A goal from Lapidus came just after the half following commotion in the box on an Albright free kick.  The ball found the head of Lapidus and then the top left corner of the net for a Lions goal and 2-1 score.  Although Albright pressed forward and added three more shots, Ewing again denied.

The Falcons held a 16-8 advantage in shots and a slim 8-7 edge in shots on goal.  Messiah was rewarded five corner kicks to Albright's three.

In goal for the Lions, sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Donkus tallied six saves, facing 16 shots total.  Ewing also stopped six shots earning her 14th win this season.

The Albright women's soccer team will face Hood on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. for their last conference home game.
