Women’s Soccer Falls in Shootout to William Paterson in ECAC Quarterfinals

READING, Pa. – After ending two overtime periods in a 1-1 draw, the Albright women's soccer team fell to William Paterson in penalty kicks in the quarterfinals of the ECAC championship tournament on Sunday afternoon.

The shootout was the first in the history of Albright women's soccer and the Lions complete their 2019 season with an overall 13-8-1 record.  William Paterson will advance to the ECAC semifinals next weekend with a 9-9-2 record.

The first half saw just two shots, both from the Lions, with the first coming in the eighth minute.  The next came after junior Amanda Fulcher brought the ball down the left side of the field in the 26th minute and crossed into the box to find first-year Emily Serpico in front of the net.  Serpico one-timed the ball past the goalkeeper for the 1-0 game at 26:34.  William Paterson held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks in the half and junior goalkeeper Erica Hickey saved Fulcher's first shot on goal.

In the 70th minute, William Paterson tied the game at one apiece as first-year Lindsey Ash lofted one over the top of the defense to senior Corrine Bowe for the equalizer.  Albright held a slim 6-5 advantage in shots in the second half and both sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Donkus and Hickey made one save for their respective teams.

The two overtime periods were highlighted by three saves from Donkus, as Albright got two shots off and William Paterson took five.  With a score of 1-1 after the end of the second overtime, the Lions and Pioneers headed into a shootout.

Senior Lorraine Moffitt, junior Daniella LoBue, and senior Kristen Bowe each made their penalty kick as Albright was unable to net the ball.  Hickey made one save in the shootout and the Pioneers earned their spot in the ECAC semifinals after going 3-0 in penalty kicks.

Serpico paced the Lions in shooting as she tallied four shots and Corrine Bowe led the Pioneers with three.  Donkus totaled four saves on the day, while Hickey had two.
