READING, Pa. – On Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action, the Albright women's basketball team extended their winning-streak to seven games after pulling away from Immaculata to earn a 77-58 win.
Albright remains undefeated at 7-0 and Immaculata falls to 4-3 on the season. The current season-opening winning streak is the longest since the 2015-16 season when the Lions won their first 11 games.
Leading the Lions with a double-double, sophomore
Gabby Boggs scored 18 points to match her career-high and pulled down 14 rebounds. Boggs also added three blocks and two assists in the win. Classmate
Dejah Terrell had 17 points in 16 minutes, while grabbing five rebounds and also adding three blocks.
Pulling down five rebounds apiece, sophomore
Maggie O'Hare followed had 14 points and senior
Hailey Dayton scored 10 for the Lions.
Just after tip-off, Terrell hit two layups to put the Lions in the lead in the opening minutes. The Mighty Macs were relentless in the first quarter and after three lead changes, took over 14-12 entering the second quarter after senior Annie Kohutka sank a jumper for two.
The remaining minutes of the half remained even, highlighted by back-to-back three pointers from Dayton. With four seconds remaining in the half, sophomore
Abby Gaffney put the Lions up by two after fast break in the paint.
Beginning with a 9-0 run, the Lions' momentum from the end of the half continued into the third quarter. The Mighty Macs were unable to bounce back as Albright held lead throughout the second half for a final score of 77-58.
With 15 points and 13 rebounds, junior Brielle Rigo posted a double-double for the Mighty Macs. Classmates Theresa Kearney and Shannon Kelly added 13 points and 10 points, respectively.
The Lions shot 29-of-70 (41%) from the floor, 6-of-24 (25%) from beyond the arc, and 13-of-23 (56%) from the free throw line. The Mighty Macs went 36% (22-of-60) from the floor, 7% (1-of-14) from beyond the arc, and 72% (13-of-18) from the line. Immaculata held a slight 44-43 edge in rebounds and Albright scored 26 points off turnovers.
The Albright women's basketball team will travel to Arcadia University for the conference-opener on Wednesday, Dec. 4 for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
