COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Albright women's basketball team used a strong third quarter to pull away from the Bears, earning an 82-73 win at Ursinus College in the 2019-20 opener on Friday evening.
Albright, led by head coach
Janice Luck, kicks off the season 1-0 and continues a six-game win streak against the Bears since 2014, previously edging Ursinus 48-46 in Dec. of 2018.
A sophomore trio led the Lions, as
Dejah Terrell and
Brady Wassel posted 22 points apiece and
Gabby Boggs pulled down 15 rebounds paired with eight points. Senior
Hailey Dayton added 13 points along with seven assists.
Ursinus made the first basket of the night after tip-off, but Terrell sunk a three on the counterattack to kick off the contest with a seven-point run. A series of layups sparked a 10-2 Bears run, closing Albright's lead at the end of the first quarter, 18-15. Senior Lydia Konstanzer's layup with 24 seconds left on the clock in the second quarter put the Bears up 36-35 heading into the locker room.
The offensively strong third was caused by 16 points off Ursinus turnovers. Albright hit four three-pointers in the quarter, a pair from sophomore
Maggie O'Hare along with one from both sophomore
Amina Rauf and Dayton. The Lions scored 26 points to the Bears' 15 and Albright held the lead created through the end of the game to go home with an 82-73 road win.
The Lions shot 31-of-81 (39.5%) from the field, 7-of-32 (21.9%) from beyond the arc and 11-of-17 (64.7%) from the line, while Ursinus connected on 26-of-62 (41.9%) from the field, 0-for-7 from deep and 21-of-29 (72.4%) from the free throw line.
Albright held a slight 47-46 edge on the boards led by 15 from Boggs and nine from Wassel. Ursinus' Konstanzer grabbed 14 to pace the Bears.
