READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's basketball team (12-12, 7-8 MACC) held off a late Alvernia rally in a 73-65 victory over the Golden Wolves (3-21, 0-15 MACC) on Thursday night at Jack McCloskey Court in Reading.
Alvernia's Gabriella De Vito hit a three with 1:09 left to cut the lead to six at 66-60, but the Lions made 7-of-10 from the charity stripe in the final minute plus to close out the victory.
The 73 points marks a season-high for Albright and their most points in a game since an 81-47 victory versus Hood on Jan. 31, 2018.
Freshman
Dejah Terrell paced the Lions with 15 points (7-of-10 FTs) and 12 rebounds, while classmates
Gabby Boggs and
Abby Gaffney added 13 points apiece. Junior
Lauren Killion buried a trio of threes and contributed nine for Albright, while Boggs also added nine rebounds and six blocks.
De Vito had 17 points (5-of-10 3PT) to lead the way offensively for Alvernia and Janelle Robinson added 16 points of her own.
Killion, Terrell and Gaffney all buried threes out of the gate for the Lions and a layup from junior
Zaria Mohamed gave the visitors an 11-2 lead with 5:54 left in the first quarter. Alvernia scored the next four points to draw back within five, but Albright closed the quarter on a 12-4 run and a three from freshman
Brady Wassel made it a 23-10 game after one. The Lions scored 12 of the first 17 points in the second quarter and a triple from Killion stretched the lead to as many as 20 at 35-15 with 6:38 left in the half. The two teams traded baskets for the majority of the remainder of the half and Albright took a 46-30 lead into the locker room. Head coach

from the floor in the first half and 7-of-14 (50%) from beyond the arc.
Terrell's three made it a 49-30 game in favor of the Lions with 7:22 to play in the third quarter, but Alvernia answered with an 11-2 run capped by an Amber Orban jumper to cut the Lions' lead to 10 at 51-41. Albright took a 55-44 lead into the fourth quarter and Gaffney opened the scoring with a layup before a quick 8-2 spurt from the Golden Wolves cut the lead to seven at 59-52 with 6:04 left in the game. The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the contest and a free throw from Gaffney made it a 66-57 game before De Vito's afore-mentioned three and the clutch free throws down the stretch from the Lions.
Albright was 23-of-54 (42.6%) from the floor, 8-of-22 (36.4%) from three and 19-of-27 (70.4%) from the free throw line, while Alvernia hit 25-of-71 (36.2%) from the field, 8-of-17 (47.1%) from three and 7-of-9 (77.8%) from the charity stripe.
The Lions held a 44-36 edge on the boards led by Terrell's 12 and nine from Boggs. Torie Zerbe paced Alvernia with eight rebounds.
Albright wraps up the regular season on Saturday, Feb 16. when Stevenson comes to the Bollman Center for a MAC Commonwealth tilt at 1 p.m.
