READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's basketball team (11-11, 6-7 MACC) outscored Hood by a 21-7 margin in the third quarter en route to a 63-41 victory over the Blazers (6-16, 2-11 MACC) on Wednesday night at the Bollman Center in Reading.
Albright held a 62-27 edge on the boards and a 21-2 advantage in second chance points. Head coach
Janice Luck's squad collected 25 offensive rebounds.
The Lions remain locked in a three-way tie for the fifth and final playoff spot in the MAC Commonwealth with Arcadia and Stevenson. Each team has three games remaining.
Gabby Boggs' layup with 8:16 to play in the third quarter kickstarted a 19-5 run over the remainder of the quarter as the Lions held a 46-28 lead after three.
Junior
Zaria Mohamed recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Lions, while
Brady Wassel chipped in 10 points off the bench and Boggs delivered 9 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman
Dejah Terrell added six points and 10 rebounds for Albright, while classmate
Shaunna Bruker came through with six points and nine boards of her own.
Lauren Keeney paced the Blazers with 11 points, while Mia Savoy delivered eight points and six rebounds.
Albright scored eight of the first 11 points in this one following a
Lauren Killion jumper at the 4:58 mark of the first quarter and the Lions held an 11-6 edge at the end of one. The Blazers opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run capped by a Celestria Hill jumper that gave the visitors a 14-11 edge with 6:59 to go, but Wassel answered with a three on the other end to tie the game at 14 apiece. The two teams would trade buckets for the remainder of the half and a late layup from Wassel gave the Lions a 25-21 edge heading into the locker room.
Boggs' afore-mentioned layup came after Ebony Pitt had made it a 27-23 game with 9:13 left in the third quarter. A three from Savoy to open the fourth quarter brought Hood within 15 at 46-31, but that was the closest they would get the rest of the way. Albright would stretch the lead to as many as 25 at 59-34 with 2:38 to play as freshman
Kayana Chisholm hit a layup. Chisholm collected six points and three rebounds over the final four plus minutes of the contest.
The Lions shot 25-of-73 (34.2%) from the floor and 3-of-18 (16.7%) from beyond the arc, while Hood was 14-of-59 (23.7%) from the field and 6-of-30 (20%) from deep.
