READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions softball team (1-1) split a doubleheader with the Penn State Schuylkill Nittany Lions (1-6) to kick off the 2019 season on Wednesday afternoon at the Albright Softball Field.
Albright captured game one by a score of 10-0 in five innings, while Penn State Schuylkill rallied for a 9-6 victory in game two.
Game One
The Lions started the top of the second with a double, walk and a single before senior
Corinne Garuffe cleared the bases with a three-run double into the right centerfield gap.
Albright broke the game open with a seven-run third as senior
Kelly Cembrale delivered a key blow with a two-run double, senior
Jordan Chell came through with an RBI double and junior
Abigail Lord knocked in a run via an RBI single.
Junior
Lynsie Grant (1-0) surrendered just two hits to go along with three walks and six strikeouts over five shutout frames to earn the win for the Lions.

Stephanie Pomante all had multi-hit games for the Lions and each of the trio scored a pair of runs as well.
Morgan Updegrove (0-1) was dealt the loss for the Nittany Lions after allowing 10 runs (five earned) on 10 hits while walking one and fanning three in 5.0 IP.
Game Two
Penn State Schuylkill rallied for nine runs in the top of the sixth to pick up the 9-6 victory in game two. Senior Hayley Wolff tied the game with a two-run single down the left field line and following a walk, Danielle Lilly gave the Nittany Lions the lead with a two-run double. The first 10 batters reached in the inning for the visitors including RBI singles from Ashley Pentz and Sierra Santarsario.
Freshman
Kasey Souder (0-1) was dealt the loss for Albright after giving up three runs on two hits and walking a batter. Santarsario held the Lions scoreless over the final four frames to record the win for Penn State Schuylkill.
Albright grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the home half of the first as
Stephany Courtney singled and the duo of Pomante and
Camille Sears drew consecutive walks to load the bases before Lord knocked in a pair with a two-run single. In the bottom of the second, Cembrale walked, stole second and third and scored on a throwing error charged to Wolff that made it a 3-0 game. Courtney and Pomante drew back-to-back walks to start the third before Sears cleared the bases with a three-run blast to right center.
Sears received a no-decision after giving up four runs (three earned) on eight hits while walking three over five innings of work.
Chell (2-4) and Sears (2-3, HR, 3 RBI, BB, R) both recorded multi-hit games for the Lions and junior
Brooke Yerger added a hit along with a pair of stolen bases.
The Lions host Neumann in a doubleheader tomorrow, March 14 with first pitch of game one set for 3 p.m.
