Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Falls to Delaware Valley, 12-4

DOLYESTOWN, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's lacrosse team suffered a 12-4 loss to Delaware Valley on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-6 on the season as they wrap up their non-conference portion of the schedule. Meanwhile, the Aggies improve to 3-4 on the season.

After a big scramble on the opening faceoff, the Lions forced an Aggies turnover and took advantage of it as sophomore John Gilbert scored to make it 1-0 at the 14:30-mark of the first quarter. Junior Ryan Wilburn scooped up the ground ball off the Aggie turnover and raced to find Gilbert, who was set up perfectly on the left side of the cage. Delaware Valley would strike back just 57 seconds later to knot the game at one, and would eventually take a 2-1 lead at the 8:17-mark following a long offensive possession. Albright was then able to withstand another long Aggie offensive possession as senior Conor Scafidi made three big saves to keep the game at 2-1. However, the Aggies would extend its lead to 3-1 at the 4:26-mark following a Lions turnover. Delaware Valley then added one more goal at the 1:31-mark to take a 4-1 lead into the second quarter. The Aggies would waste little time to extend its lead into the second quarter as they scored in the first 18 seconds to make it 5-1. Sophomore Ethan Gain ended the five-goal Aggie run with a man-up goal at the 11:49-mark after classmate Carson Babcock found him open from behind the net. Unfortunately for the Lions, they were unable to keep up momentum as the Aggies tallied three-straight goals to end the second quarter to take an 8-2 lead into halftime.

The Aggies would continue the goal run as they scored at the 13:14-mark of the third quarter to make it 9-2. Both teams went scoreless for the next eight minutes before the Aggies tallied two goals in a short span to take a commanding 11-2 lead. The advantage would stay the same deep into the fourth quarter until the Aggies completed the overall seven-goal run to go up 12-2 with 3:43 left in the game. Sophomore Shane Early ended the Aggie goal run with his third goal of the season at the 1:52-mark, while Babcock concluded the scoring in the contest with a goal at the 17-second mark.

Delaware Valley held a 46-26 shot advantage for the game, and a 27-15 advantage in shots on goal. The Aggies also held a slight 32-27 advantage in ground balls, and won 10 of the 17 face offs. Babcock led the Lions with two points behind a goal and an assist, while Gilbert, Gain, and Early all tallied one goal each. Scafidi suffered the loss despite another strong performance in net with 15 saves in the full 60 minutes. Aggie goalkeeper Gavin Yingling earned the win after making 10 saves in 56:17 minutes of action.

The Lions will return to action on Wednesday, March 27th as they will host Widener to open MAC Commonwealth play at 4 p.m.
