Softball Drops Pair to Clarkson, McDaniel

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Albright Lions softball team (4-6) dropped a pair of contests to McDaniel (7-3) and Clarkson (10-3) on Wednesday afternoon at The Spring Games.

Albright fell to McDaniel by a score of 4-1 and dropped an 11-1 decision to Clarkson in the team's second game of the day.

Game One
McDaniel's four-run third inning proved to be the difference in the game as Michaela Persinger got the Green Terror on the board with an RBI single and later in the frame, Madison Froemel delivered a two-run single to make it a 4-0 game.

The Lions got one back in the top of the fourth as junior Camille Sears reached on an infield single, advanced to third on a pair of groundouts and scored on an error charged to Froemel at third base that cut the lead to 4-1.

Freshman Allison Melahn (1-2) got the start in the circle for Albright and was dealt the loss after allowing four runs on eight hits to go along with two walks and six strikeouts in six innings of work. Cassie Rickrode (2-1) allowed the one unearned run on three hits to go along with three walks and four strikeouts in a complete game effort to earn the win for McDaniel.

Albright had a chance in the early going with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the second, but Rickrode was able to record a strikeout and got Jessica Rodriguez to ground to short to end the inning.

Rodriguez, Sears and senior Jordan Chell registered the hits in the contest for the Lions.

Game Two
Clarkson got on the board with a run in the third as Liz Caggiano led off with a single, advanced to second on an error, went to third on a single and scored on Sarah Vaccaro's RBI single. The Knights broke the game open with six runs in the fourth including a three-run double from Caggiano and an RBI double from Kayla Robert to make it a 7-0 game.

Sears (1-3) was dealt the loss for the Lions after allowing seven runs on 11 hits while walking three in 3 1/3 IP. Olivia Zoeller (4-1) registered the win for Clarkson after surrendering one run on six hits to go along with five strikeouts in six innings of work.

Albright got on the board with a run in the home half of the fifth as sophomore Brooke Franklin got on base with a one-out single, took second on a hit by pitch and scored on Rodriguez's RBI double to cut the lead to 8-1. Danielle Whitham had a two-run double as part of a three-run sixth for Clarkson.

Rodriguez (2-3, 2B, RBI) had a multi-hit game for the Lions, while Sears extended her hitting streak to nine games with a single in the fourth inning.

The Lions return to action on Friday at The Spring Games with tilts against Lawrence at 9:30 a.m. and Wisconsin Stevens-Point at 11:45 a.m.
