READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's lacrosse team was unable to overcome a balanced offensive attack from Hood as they fell 16-7 to the Blazers on Wednesday night at Shirk Stadium in MAC Commonwealth play.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-11 overall on the season and 0-5 in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Blazers improve to 9-3 overall and 2-3 in MAC Commonwealth play.
Hood came out on fire to start the first quarter as they tallied three goals in the first 2:57 of the game to take a 3-0 lead. They would add one more goal to go up 4-0 at the 10:03-mark before sophomore
John Gilbert notched the Lions first goal at the 9:45-mark to make it 4-1 after junior
Ryan Wilburn found him following a quick clear attempt. Sophomore
Carson Babcock then made it a 4-2 game with an unassisted goal at the 8:53-mark. Unfortunately for the Lions, they were unable to sustain momentum as Hood added its fifth goal of the quarter to go up 5-2 at the 2:04-mark. The Blazers would add a pair of goals to begin the second quarter to take a 7-2 lead at the 12:11-mark as the Lions were held a shot until the 9:32-mark of the quarter. Sophomore
Ethan Gain did make the most of the first shot of the quarter as he scored to make it 7-3. The Blazers then ran off three-straight goals to take a 10-3 lead at the 3:56-mark before Gain netted his second of the game to make it 10-4 with 2:06 left in the first half.
The Blazers scored once more at the end of the second quarter, and would extend its lead to 12-4 just 30 seconds into the third quarter on a man-up advantage that started at the end of the second quarter. Kevin Goetz. Hood would add back-to-back goals to take a 10-goal advantage at 15-5 with 5:45 left in the third quarter. Freshman
Cole Genneken then scored the Lions sixth goal of the game at the 1:56-mark of the third quarter. Each team would add a goal in the fourth quarter as sophomore
Alex Miller found the top left corner of the net on a wraparound shot.
Hood held a 54-29 advantage in shots for the game, and a 30-11 advantage in shots on goal. The Blazers also held a 38-24 advantage in ground balls, while winning 18 of the 25 face offs. Gain led the Lions with three points behind two goals and one assist. Genneken and Gilbert each tallied two points off one goal and one assist, while three other Lions each tallied one goal. Conor Scafidi suffered the loss after making 14 saves in the full 60 minutes, while Hood goalkeeper Noah Waterlander made four saves to earn the win.
The Lions will return to action on Wednesday, April 17
th when they will travel to face cross-town rival Alvernia at 4 p.m.
