Baumann Records 200th Career Point in Loss to Colorado College

READING, Pa. – Junior Kelly Baumann became the fourth player in Albright women's lacrosse history to record 200 points for her career as the Lions dropped a hard-fought 15-13 contest to #21 Colorado College on a rainy Friday afternoon at Shirk Stadium.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 11-5 as they enter the final week of the regular season. Meanwhile, the nationally-ranked Tigers improve to 15-1 overall.

The Tigers started fast as they tallied the first two goals of the game within a 1:10 span of each other to take a 2-0 lead at the 26:50 mark of the first half. Freshman Taylor Filmer got the Lions on the board at the 25:06-mark on an unassisted goal to make it 2-1, but the Tigers responded with back-to-back goals to take a 4-1 lead at the 19-minute mark. Freshman Lauren China would cut the deficit down to 4-2 at the 16:33-mark before the Tigers responded at the 13:39-mark on a man-up situation to bring their advantage back to 5-2. The Lions continued to hang with the Tigers as freshman Ashleigh Tortorice made it a 5-3 game at the 10:34-mark on a free position shot goal. Colorado College responded to go back up 6-3 at the 7:14-mark, but then it was the Lions that began to make a charge at the lead. Filmer found the back of the net again at the 6:30-mark to make it 6-4, and then assisted on the next Lions goal just 32 seconds later. Filmer launched a pass right in front of the net that junior Sophia Mantzavinos grabbed, and bounced the ball off the Tigers goalkeeper to score. The Tigers tallied one last goal in the first half at the two-minute mark to take a 7-5 lead into halftime.

It was the Tigers again that started fast to begin the half as they opened the second on a three-goal run to go up 10-5 at the 24:12-mark. Following another Colorado College goal, China ended the run at the 20:22-mark on an unassisted goal to bring the deficit down to 11-6. Baumann then made it 11-7 at the 19:29-mark before the Tigers ended the quick run just 1:22 later to go back up 12-7. Albright then began gaining some momentum as they recorded back-to-back goals to make it a 12-9 game at the 12:37-mark. Senior Sophie Bass scored on a free position shot, and China netted a hat trick off a pass from classmate Abbie Moist. The Tigers would go back up 13-9 at the 8:19-mark, but the Lions again continued to make a late charge with back-to-back goals to make it a 13-11 game at the 7:12-mark. Tortorice tallied her second goal of the game before Baumann followed with a goal for her 200th career point. However, the Lions were unable to keep the run going as the Tigers slammed the door on any rally at the 6:18-mark. Bass and Baumann each netted one more goal apiece for the Lions in the final three minutes of the game.

The Lions held a slight 30-29 shot advantage for the game, but the Tigers held a 20-19 advantage in shots on goal for the game. Albright also held a slight 21-20 advantage in ground balls for the game, and Colorado College won the draw control battle at 17-13. Baumann led the Lions with four points behind three goals and one assist, and China matched her with three goals. Taylor Filmer finished with three points behind two goals and one assist, and Bass put up the same numbers. Sophomore goalkeeper Terae Mason suffered the loss after starting and making four saves in 39:38 of action. Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Elliott played the final 20:22 and made one save. Tigers goalkeeper Alena Stern earned the win after making six saves in the full 60 minutes.
