YORK, Pa. – The Albright Lions softball team (19-15) swept York (Pa.) (23-17) in non-conference action on Monday afternoon to extend its winning streak to eight games.
Albright took game one by a score of 11-2 in five innings and junior
Camille Sears tossed a complete game shutout en route to a 2-0 victory in the nightcap.
Game One
The Lions erased an early 2-0 deficit and took control of the game with a nine-run second inning that made it a 9-2 game.
Three straight singles including an RBI single from junior
Abigail Lord put the Lions on the board and a throwing error charged to Spartans LF Natalie Decena allowed the tying run to score. Senior
Kelly Cembrale reached on an infield single to bring home a run and give Albright the lead for good, while
Brooke Yerger and
Jordan Chell added RBI singles in the inning, Lord tallied a second RBI single and Sears knocked in a pair with a two-run double.
Sears (4-8) surrendered two runs on five hits to go along with a strikeout in five innings of work and earned the win for Albright. Hannah Vogt (2-2) was charged with seven runs on five hits while walking a pair in 1 1/3 IP and took the loss for York (Pa.).
The Lions started the fifth inning with three straight singles and Yerger followed with an RBI single to stretch the lead to 10-2 before Chell knocked in a run via an RBI groundout.
Cembrale (3-3, RBI, 2 R), Lord (2-3, 2 RBI, SB, R), Sears (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R) and Yerger (2-4, 2 RBI, R) all recorded multi-hit contests for head coach
Marguerite DeLucas' squad.
Game Two
Sears (5-8) surrendered eight hits while walking three and fanning four over seven innings of work in a complete game shutout for Albright.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Chell got the Lions on the board with a solo shot to left in the top of the second. The home run was Chell's team-leading fourth of the season. In the top of the seventh, junior
Jessica Rodriguez reached on an error charged to York (Pa.) SS Alyssa Harhigh, advanced to second on a fielder's choice and scored on Sears' RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.
Ginger Lewis (12-6) was dealt the loss for the Spartans after allowing two runs (one earned) on nine hits to go along with two walks and eight strikeouts in 7.0 IP.
Chell (2-4, HR, RBI, R) and Sears (2-4, RBI) both had multi-hit games for the Lions. Sears is currently four hits and four RBI away from tying the single-season program records of 49 hits and 39 RBI with four regular season games remaining.
Albright closes out the home portion of its 2019 schedule with a non-conference doubleheader versus Elizabethtown on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch of game one from Albright Softball Field is set for 3 p.m.
