ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's lacrosse team was unable to overcome a six-goal second quarter from Lebanon Valley as they fell to the Dutchmen 16-9 on a windy Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth play.
The loss concludes the Lions season at 1-13 overall and 1-7 in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Dutchmen conclude their season at 7-10 overall and 3-5 in MAC Commonwealth play.
The Dutchmen opened the scoring at the 11:54-mark to take a 1-0 lead after a big save from their goalkeeper on the Lions previous possession. The game then went scoreless for just under eight minutes before sophomore
Ethan Gain tied the game at one off a pass from senior
Kevin Goetz. The tie remained the same into the second quarter until a Lions turnover set up Lebanon Valley for their second goal of the game at the 13:39-mark. Sophomore
Carson Babcock responded to tie the game at the 12:36-mark after a Lions faceoff win, but that would be as close as the Lions would get the rest of the game. The Dutchmen would close out the half with five unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead into the second half.
Lebanon Valley continued the scoring run into the second half as they scored three more goals to take a 10-2 at the 7:54-mark of the third quarter. Babcock then quickly ended the run following the 10
th goal to make it 10-3 before the Dutchmen responded 30 seconds later to go back up 11-3. Following another Dutchmen goal, the Lions tallied back-to-back goals as freshman
Alex McKendry and Babcock tallied the goals to make it 12-5 at the 3:50-mark. Gain then tallied his second goal with one second left in the third quarter following a Dutchmen goal to bring the score to 13-6. Lebanon Valley then opened the fourth quarter with a goal to go up 14-6, and sophomore
Shane Early notched his first goal of the game to make it 14-7. Babcock then added one more goal following a pair from the Dutchmen to bring the score to 16-8, and freshman
Cole Genneken ended the scoring on the day with a goal at the three-minute mark.
The Dutchmen held a 51-37 advantage in shots, and 31-23 advantage in shots on goal. The Lions held a 39-35 advantage in ground balls, while the Dutchmen won 16 of the 28 faceoffs on the day. Babcock led the Lions with five points behind four goals and one assist, while Gain posted three points on two goals and one assist. Senior goalkeeper
Conor Scafidi suffered the loss after making 15 saves, but set the Lions single-season saves record with 197. Dutchmen goalkeeper Cam Epple earned the win after making 14 saves in the full 60 minutes. Kevin Beaver led the Dutchmen with a game-high six goals.
