Baseball Drops Season Finale to Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Albright Lions baseball team (10-26, 5-16 MACC) closed out the 2019 season with a 4-1 loss to the Messiah Falcons (16-22, 8-13 MACC) in MAC Commonwealth action on Sunday afternoon at Messiah's Starry Complex in Grantham.

Messiah took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to make it a 3-1 game. Trey Pritchard drew a leadoff walk, pinch-runner Colt Price advanced to third on a double and scored when Jarod Bingaman reached on an RBI fielder's choice to give the Falcons the lead. A steal of home allowed a second run to score in the inning.

Junior Nick Dinnocenti (1-6) was dealt the tough-luck loss for the Lions after allowing three runs on five hits to go along with two walks and three strikeouts in a season-high seven innings of work.  Jordan Nichols (4-4) gave up one run on five hits while walking one and fanning six in 7 1/3 IP to earn the win for Messiah.

The Falcons opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first, but Albright answered in the top of the fifth as freshman Jeremy Brubaker led off with a double, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on Will Algard's RBI single to tie the game at one apiece.

Brubaker (2-3, 2B, R) and junior Jimmie Gentry (2-4) both registered multi-hit games for the Lions, while senior lefty Daron Pijanowski allowed an unearned run in an inning of relief.
