Hackettstown, N.J. – The Albright women's soccer team opened the 2019 season on the road at the Cyclone Kickoff Classic with a 3-1 win over Centenary on Friday afternoon.
Sophomore
Diza Hasanaj put Albright on the board in the 26
th minute of the game, set up by a pass from classmate
Autumn Bieber following a Lions corner kick. The Cyclones quickly rallied as Chloe Christopher found the back of the net two minutes later, tying the game at one apiece.
The Lions sharpened their play as the second half went on, taking the lead in the 71
st minute as Bieber assisted senior
Jillian Lapidus. To top off the contest, Bieber herself netted a goal in the 87
th minute that was assisted by freshman
Andie Barnes.
Albright outshot Centenary by a 29-5 margin and held a 17-3 edge in shots on target. Bieber recorded eight shots to pace the Lions, followed by six from Haley, and five from junior
Amanda Fulcher.
Sophomore
Olivia Donkus made two saves to earn the win in her first collegiate start in net while playing the full 90 minutes.
A duo of Centenary goalkeepers made 14 saves with Rachel Colt collecting five saves in the first half and Chelsea Estacio posting nine saves in the second half.
The Lions will take the field again in Hackettstown, N.J. tomorrow at 1 p.m. as they will face Otterbein for their final game in the Cyclone Kickoff Classic.
