Hackettstown, N.J. – The Albright women's soccer team battled for 90 minutes, but fell to No. 23 Otterbein Cardinals on Saturday afternoon in the Cyclone Classic Kickoff. Albright is 1-1 on the season, while the Cardinals improve their record to 2-0.
Just two minutes after kickoff, Albright's
Diza Hasanaj put the ball in the back of the net giving the Lions the lead, 1-0. The sophomore notched two goals this weekend, leading the team in goals after the season-opening tournament at Centenary University.
Otterbein responded rapidly, tying the game in the 6
th minute as Bella Shivley found Emily Ganz in front of the net. The Cardinals surged past the Lions with Delaney Earl leading the way for Otterbein with four goals, Emily Ganz adding another for two, and Bella Shivley scoring one goal. Otterbein controlled the game ending 7-1 in favor of the Cardinals.
Sophomore goalkeepers
Olivia Donkus and
Vanessa Baker each had four saves and Baker made her debut in the net for Albright. Otterbein's Erin Gordon collected four saves for the Cardinals.
Albright women's soccer looks to bounce back as they head to DeSales on Wednesday, Sept. 4 for a 4 p.m. contest.
