Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lions Surge Past Monarchs, 3-1

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Two second-half goals lifted the Albright women's soccer team past King's College (Pa.) for a 3-1 victory on Saturday evening.  The Lions improve to 4-2 on the season with the win.

Last season, the Lions and Monarchs met at Shirk Stadium for a contest and Albright came out on top by a slim margin of 1-0.  Albright has now won six out of the past nine meetings with King's College.

Although the opening minutes saw shots from Kings College on the Lions' net, the 16th minute brought a goal from sophomore Autumn Bieber off a free kick.  The score at halftime was 1-0, however, two minutes after kickoff King's responded with Kara Keim tapping the ball in the net.

Junior Amanda Fulcher scored the game-winning goal in the 57th minute after rebounding an initial shot deflected by a defender and placing the ball into the lower right net.  With 15 minutes left in the game, sophomore Diza Hasanaj sealed the win for the Lions by converting a penalty kick for a goal and win of 3-0.

The Lions held a solid advantage in shots 12-6 and shut the Monarchs out of corner kicks earning nine for themselves.  Bieber led the Lions in shots on goal with five and the Monarchs were paced by Breanna Jacinto with two.

Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Donkus faced six shots and made one save for the win.  Kings' goalkeepers Tara Bender and Erica Blackburn made three saves apiece for the Monarchs.

Albright women's soccer will face Moravian College on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
