BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Albright women's soccer team traveled to Moravian College on Wednesday evening, falling 2-1 after an early second-half goal secured the win for the Greyhounds. Albright falls to 4-3 and Moravian will improve to 4-2.
The Lions and Greyhounds have met since the 2015 season with the only Albright win coming in 2016. Last season, Albright hosted Moravian for a 1-0 loss.
The lone goal of the game was netted by junior
Lauren Haley in the 29
th minute, as she knocked the ball into the net off a corner kick taken by sophomore
Autumn Bieber. Bieber and Haley lead the Lions in points this season with 11 and seven, respectively.
With less than 10 minutes left in the first 45, Moravian defender Sara Cassel picked up a loose ball in the Lions' box to tie the game at one apiece at the half.
A corner kick goal off the head of Moravian's Paige Weiss in the 53
rd minute would be the game-winner, as the Lions were unable to respond.
The Greyhounds held a 12-7 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in shots on target. Haley and classmate
Amanda Fulcher paced the Lions with two shots each. Moravian's Weiss led the Greyhounds with three shots.
Albright sophomore goalkeeper
Olivia Donkus made three saves on the night while Jamie Daly and Siobhan O'Sullivan tallied one save each for Moravian.
The Lions will look to rally on Monday, Sept. 23 at Shirk Stadium as they face the Mighty Macs of Immaculata at 7:30 p.m.
