Terrell Sets Program Record as Women’s Hoops Falls to Messiah, 82-73

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Sophomore Dejah Terrell set an Albright women's basketball single-game record after scoring 41 points in the Lions' first loss of the season to Messiah on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions fall to 15-1 on the season and 6-1 in MAC Commonwealth play, while Messiah improves to 12-3 overall and 6-1 in the conference.

Terrell broke the program's single-game scoring record by four points, as the previous record holders scored 37.  Jarra Rusnock scored 37 points in 1998 against Drew and Nicole Buist also scored 37 points in a 1991 contest versus Delaware Valley.

Terrell's 41 points in 25 minutes came from going 15-of-28 from the floor, 4-of-7 from deep, and 7-of-8 from the line.  The sophomore added three blocks and three assists in the win, while tallying her 11th double-double of the season after pulling down 15 rebounds.  Terrell leads the MAC Commonwealth in scoring by 65 points overall, while averaging 23.1 points per game.  She also ranks second in rebounding and blocked shots with 11.7 and 3.2 per game, respectively.

Sophomore Maggie O'Hare added 15 points on the day for the Lions and classmate Abby Gaffney recorded nine points, behind going 3-of-6 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the line, and paced the Lions with five assists.  Sophomore Gabby Boggs registered nine rebounds and eight points, and her season total of rebounds ranks third in the MAC Commonwealth with 11.5 per game.

Although Albright started the game off on a 5-0 run, the Falcons responded with a 27-4 run of their own through the end of the first quarter.   In the first quarter, Albright shot 25 percent from the floor and Messiah shot 63.2 percent behind going 12-of-19 from the floor.  Albright outscored Messiah in the remaining three quarters, but were unable to make up the difference made in the first.  Lions' scoring at the half was led by Terrell with 16 points for a score of 29-45 going into the locker rooms.

Messiah held the lead in the second half and the Lions decreased the lead to as much as five points at the 6:04-mark in the fourth quarter.  Messiah picked up their sixth win in the MAC Commonwealth and gave Albright the first loss of the season with a final score of 82-73.

The Lions shot 45.3 percent (29-of-64) from the floor, 35.3 percent (6-of-17) from three, and 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from the line.  The Falcons went 29-of-60 (48.3%) from the floor, 2-of-10 (20%) from deep, and 22-of-28 (78.6%) on free throws.  Messiah scored 22 points off 18 Albright turnovers and Albright out-rebounded Messiah, 39-31.

Leah Springer and Jayneisha Davis paced the Falcons' scoring with 25 points apiece, while Springer earned a double-double with 11 rebounds.  Four Messiah starters earned double-digit points, including Eleana Eckley with 16 and Megan Zimmerman with 14.
