CHESTER, Pa. – Following 11 lead changes within 40 minutes of play, the Albright Lions women's basketball team fell to the Widener Pride 69-68 on the road on Wednesday evening.

With the loss, Albright falls to 19-3 on the 2019-20 season and 10-3 in MAC Commonwealth play.  Widener improves to 18-4 overall and also holds a 10-3 conference record.

Sophomore Dejah Terrell led the Lions with 24 points in the game to break the single-season scoring record for Albright women's basketball.  Terrell has tallied 498 points so far this season, passing Jarra Rusnock who sat atop the records after totaling 492 points in the 1995-96 season with the Lions.  Terrell also tied the single-season blocks program record with 67 blocks after blocking two shots against Widener.  Kelecia Harris recorded 67 blocks during the 2015-16 season to set the record previously.  Terrell earned a double-double and led the rebounding for both teams in the contest with 18.

With 10 rebounds and 10 points, sophomore Gabby Boggs registered a double-double for the Lions, while adding three assists and one steal.  Boggs ranks third in MAC Commonwealth rebounding with 12.1 per game.  Classmate Brady Wassel scored 14 points in the game and matched her career-high with three three-pointers on five attempts from behind the arc.  Sophomore Abby Gaffney paced the Lions with four assists and leads the conference with an assist to turnover ratio of 1.9.

The opening two minutes of the game saw an 8-2 run by Widener off two three-pointers and a layup in the paint.  A layup from Terrell at the 7:24-mark sparked an Albright 8-2 run to tie the game at 10 apiece at the 5:42-mark following a three-pointer from Wassel.  Terrell added five more points and sophomore Amina Rauf recorded two in the closing minutes of the first quarter for an 18-15 Albright lead after the first 10 minutes of action.

A good jumper from Widener just 14 seconds into the second quarter followed by a free throw tied the game at 18 points at the 9:08-mark.  Back-and-forth action caused two more tied scores before the Lions started on a 9-0 run for their biggest lead of the night of nine points at the 2:42-mark.  Widener closed the gap to just three points as the teams headed to the locker rooms at half with an Albright lead of 34-31.

Widener tied the game once again at 36 apiece at the 8:05-mark in the third quarter and an 8-4 run gave the hosts a four-point lead halfway through.  Wassel and Terrell each scored four points in the remaining minutes to cut the deficit to just one point going into the final 10 minutes of the game.

Rauf kicked the fourth quarter off with a good layup at the 9:40-mark to gain the lead for the Lions, 50-49.  After two more possessions from each team, the score was tied for the sixth time in the game at 52.  The score tied three more times at the 6:38-mark, 6:01-mark, and 4:56-mark of the quarter.  The next two minutes saw a 10-4 Widener run for a Pride lead of six points, 69-63, with 1:31 on the clock.  Albright held possession, but missed a layup with 1:11 to go and Terrell was fouled as she grabbed the rebound.  The sophomore made her free throw and at the other end of the court, Widener missed a jumper and again fouled Terrell on the rebound.  She went 1-2 at the line and the Pride held a 69-65 lead with 41 seconds left.  Following an Albright timeout, Wassel made a layup to cut Widener's lead to two points, 69-67, with 33 seconds on the clock.  On Widener's possession, a jumper was missed and Boggs grabbed the defensive rebound, which was followed by another Albright timeout.  A Widener foul with under a second left in the game sent Albright to the line again to go 1-2 for a final score of 69-68, in Widener's favor.

The Lions shot 39.3 percent (24-of-61) from the field, 35.7 percent (5-of-14) from three, and 60.0 percent (15-of-25) from the line.  The Pride went 26-of-67 (38.8%) from the floor, 10-of-24 (41.7%) from beyond the arc, and 7-of-10 (70.0%) on free throws.  Both teams were most accurate in the closing 10 minutes of the game, as the Lions went 7-of-15 (46.7%) and the Pride shot 8-of-13 (61.5%) from the field.  Albright scored 34 points from inside the paint and 13 points off second chances.  Widener scored 13 points off nine Albright turnovers and recorded 14 fast-break points.
