Women’s Hoops Pulls Away From Alvernia, 72-57

READING, Pa. – Albright women's basketball sophomores Dejah Terrell and Gabby Boggs combined for 41 points in a 72-57 MAC Commonwealth victory over Alvernia on Tuesday evening at the Jack McCloskey Court.
 
Albright improves to 21-3 on the season and 12-3 in the conference heading into the last game of the regular season.  Alvernia falls to 8-16 overall and 3-13 in conference action.
 
Four Albright Lions earned double-digit scoring in the victory.  Terrell led the Lions with 21 points and 16 rebounds for a double-double, while adding three assists and two blocks.  The sophomore continues to pace MAC Commonwealth scoring with 22.3 points per game and is second in rebounding with 12.5 per game.  Boggs totaled 20 points for her career-high by shooting 8-of-13 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the line, while leading the Lions with four steals.  She is ranked third in conference rebounding with 12.0 per game and tallied 13 in the win tonight for a double-double.

Sophomore Maggie O'Hare totaled 11 points and three steals, while classmate Amina Rauf added 10 points and three assists.  Additionally, sophomore Brady Wassel pulled down 10 rebounds for the Lions and senior Hailey Dayton had three assists.
 
Albright started the game off with four points from Boggs for a 4-0 Albright run in the opening minutes.  The lead changed two more times before a jumper by Terrell put the Lions on top, 6-5, at the 4:32-mark.  With 1:33 left in the first quarter, an Alvernia layup gave the Golden Wolves a 12-11 lead.  Two free throws from Rauf gave Albright the lead for a short moment before Alvernia took over during the remaining 47 seconds for a 15-13 Alvernia lead.  A big second quarter led the Lions to victory, as Albright outscored Alvernia 15-4 in the period.  A jumper from Boggs tied the game at the 8:32-mark at 15 points apiece to kick-start Albright's 7-2 run.  By halftime, Albright led Alvernia 28-19.
 
Alvernia decreased Albright's lead to just five points one minute into the third quarter for a score of 28-23.  A 10-3 Albright run increased the lead back to 12 points at the 5:57 mark, 38-26.  At the end of the third quarter, Albright led 50-36.  In a final quarter of back-and-forth action, Albright scored 22 points to Alvernia's 21.  Terrell and Boggs both totaled six points in the quarter as Gaffney had five and O'Hare added four.
 
Gabriella De Vito paced the Golden Wolves with 18 points behind shooting 7-of-13 from the floor and 4-of-6 from deep.  Cathryn Kramer followed with 14 points and both Torie Zerbe and Julia Ewen pulled down eight rebounds for Alvernia.
 
The Lions shot 33.8 percent (25-of-74) from the floor, 10.0 percent (2-of-20) from beyond the arc, and 66.7 percent (20-of-30) from the line.  The Golden Wolves went 22-of-68 (32.4%) from the field, 4-of-16 (25.0%) from three, and 9-of-18 (50.0%) on free throws.  Albright totaled 40 points in the paint, 23 points off 20 Alvernia turnovers, and 17 points off second-chances.
 
The Albright women's basketball team will return home on Saturday, Feb. 22 for the final regular-season game of the season against Messiah at 1 p.m.
