Mason Sets Program Saves Record in WLAX 12-10 Win Over Ursinus

READING, Pa. – Junior goalkeeper Terae Mason set the program saves record as the Albright women's lacrosse team scored six goals in each half to defeat Ursinus 12-10 on a cold Saturday afternoon at Shirk Stadium in non-conference play.

With the win, the Lions improve to 2-1 overall and pick up their third-straight win over Ursinus overall. Meanwhile, the Bears drop to 0-3 on the season.

First-year Chloe Fornoff opened the scoring at the 28:17-mark of the first half to give the Lions the early 1-0 lead before the Bears answered with two goals in a 25 second span to go up 2-1. Sophomore Maddie Taylor quickly tied the game at the 26:44-mark on a man-up situation, starting a three-goal run for the Lions. Sophomore Ashleigh Tortorice grabbed a loose ball out of the pack in front of the crease to give the Lions the lead at the 22:41-mark, and was followed by Fornoff scoring her second of the game at the 21:54-mark after a draw control win. Sophomore Lauren China capped the run at the 19:15-mark to make it 5-2 after senior Kelly Baumann found her in front of the cage. The Lions seemed to extend the lead to 6-2 at the 14:10-mark, but were called offsides to negate the goal. Ursinus scored just under a minute later on a free position shot to cut the deficit down to 5-3. First-year Abigail Hai responded for the Lions with 11:35 left in the first half to put them back up three goals at 6-3. However, the Bears closed the half with three-straight goals to tie the score at six headed into halftime. Ursinus forced five Lion turnovers during that stretch.

The Lions started the second half strong as they tallied two goals in the first 1:41 to take an 8-6 lead. Fornoff notched her third of the game at the 29:22-mark before Baumann followed with her first of the game just over a minute later. Baumann then used a long pass to find a wide open Tortorice in front of the cage to extend the Lions lead to 9-6 at the 21:56-mark. Ursinus ended the run at the 20:16-mark with a goal to cut the Albright lead down to 9-7. China put the Lions back up three goals at 10-7 with 12:46 left in regulation, but the Bears would not go away quietly as they scored at the 9:45-mark to make it a 10-8 game. The Lions took advantage of a Bears turnover to make it an 11-8 game at the 4:46-mark. Sophomore Abbie Moist drew shooting space before backing out of it to find Tortorice cutting in front for her third goal of the game. Taylor added one last goal for the Lions with 3:06 left in regulation, while the Bears scored the final two goals of the game in the final nine seconds.

Ursinus held a slight 32-30 edge in shots, while the Lions had the slight edge in shots on goal at 22-20. Albright owned a 20-19 advantage in ground balls, while the Bears held a 14-9 edge in draw control wins. Mason made 10 saves to earn the win in the full 60 minutes, setting a new program record in career saves that was previously held by Emily Hutson. Alexa Machado suffered the loss after making 10 saves in the full 60 minutes. Baumann led the Lions with five points behind four assists and one goal, while Fornoff and Tortorice each scored three goals. Baumann also tied the program assists record that was set last season by Sophie Bass.

Albright will return to action on Wednesday, March 4th as they will travel to face Haverford at 4 p.m.
