READING, Pa. – The Albright men's basketball team was defeated in a high-scoring 91-87 contest to Lebanon Valley on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth play.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 11-10 overall and 6-6 in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Dutchmen improve to 10-11 overall and 5-7 in conference play, while avenging their overtime loss to the Lions at home back in early December.
Junior
Samuel Majekodunmi led the Lions with a team-high 19 points, and dished out seven rebounds while grabbing four rebounds. Classmate
Sidney Brown added 16 points and three rebounds, while senior
DeLascio Dancy tallied 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting and two steals. Junior
Isaiah Harris posted 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting, grabbed five rebounds, and tallied two blocks. First-year
Jordan Guerrero added 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field off the bench.
Majkeodunmi and Brown hit back-to-back three-pointers following a Dutchmen basket to open the game to give Albright a 6-2 advantage at the 18:58-mark of the first half. Each team continued to shoot well from the field as the Lions held an 11-8 lead at the 16:25-mark of the first half. Lebanon Valley went on a 12-3 run to take a 20-14 lead at the 12:29-mark of the first half. Albright responded with scoring 12-straight points to take a 26-20 lead at the 8:30-mark of the first half. The teams would trade baskets for the next four minutes before the Lions went up seven points at 39-32 with 4:37 left in the first half. Albright maintained the lead for the rest of the half, but the Dutchmen made a three-pointer as time expired to gain momentum into the half despite being down 46-44.
The Lions opened the second half by making three of their first four shots to take a 53-49 lead at the 17:55-mark. Albright held a 60-56 lead at the 14:19-mark before the Dutchmen scored six-straight points to go up 62-60 at the 12:15-mark, their first lead of the second half. With both teams still shooting well from the field, the lead changed hands six times over the next 3:07. Albright tied the score on two different occasions over the next four minutes of the game, but were unable to take the lead on the Dutchmen. Lebanon Valley went up 82-78 at the 3:49-mark of the second half before Brown cut the lead to one point after making three-straight free throws with 3:36 left in regulation. The Dutchmen continued to respond with field goals each time the Lions cut the lead down to one point, and held an 86-83 lead with 2:23 left in regulation. Following a pair of free throws from Majekodunmi to make it an 86-85 game, the Lions nearly took the lead when Brown had a three-pointer go in and out of the basket with 48 seconds left in regulation. Lebanon Valley went 5-of-6 in the final minute to close out the win.
Albright shot 46.4 percent (30-of-64) from the field, and went 10-of-25 (40%) from beyond the arc for the game. The Lions shot a solid 81% from the free throw line (17-of-21), and scored 18 points off 15 Dutchmen turnovers. Meanwhile, the Dutchmen shot 53.2 percent (33-of-62) from the field after shooting over 50 percent in each half. Lebanon Valley went 8-of-17 (47.1%) from beyond the arc, and 17-of-22 (77.3%) from the free throw line. The Dutchmen also held a 37-33 rebounding advantage which led to an 18-8 advantage in second chance points.
Zach Tucker and Justin Baker each led a balanced Dutchmen scoring attack with 21 points apiece with Tucker going 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. Baker also completed a double-double with 10 rebounds and dished out two assists. Collin Jones added 14 points behind going 6-of-8 from the field, and grabbed seven rebounds.
The Lions will return to action on Wednesday, February 12
th when they will travel to face first place Widener at 6 p.m.
