Baumann Sets Scoring Record in 18-13 Setback to Kean

READING, Pa. – Senior Kelly Baumann became the all-time leading scorer in program history as the Albright women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-13 contest to Kean at Shirk Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

With the loss, the Lions drop to 4-3 on the season and see their two-game winning streak snapped. Meanwhile, the Cougars improve to 3-1 overall to begin the 2020 season.

Baumann eclipsed the Lions career all-time points record that was previously held by former Lion Sophie Bass. The record was 242 points which Bass set last season, and Baumann now stands at 245 career points. She became the fourth Lions player in program history to reach the 200-career point plateau last season. Baumann currently ranks fourth all-time in program history with 161 goals.

The Cougars started off strong as they scored three goals in the first 3:49 of the contest with two goals coming off free position attempts. First-year Abigail Hai got the Lions on the board with a goal at the 22:12-mark after Baumann found her cutting in from the right side. First-year Chloe Fornoff quickly cut the lead to 3-2 just 41 seconds later following a draw control win. Kean opened its lead back up to three goals at 5-2 with back-to-back tallies before Baumann set the record with a goal at the 14:05-mark. However, the Cougars continued to take advantage of Lions mistakes as they scored two-straight goals again to take a 7-3 lead at the 12:21-mark. Sophomore Maddie Taylor notched her first of the game at the 12-minute mark to make it a 7-4 game, but Kean came back with two-straight goals yet again to go up 9-4 exactly two minutes later. Hai scored back-to-back goals of her own to make it a 9-6 game at the six-minute mark before the Cougars responded with three-straight goals to go up 12-6 with just 1:08 left in the first half. Fornoff gave the Lions some momentum heading into halftime with a free position shot goal just 29 seconds later.

Kean once again tallied the opening goal of the half as they went up 13-7 at the 28:34-mark. However, the Lions strung together a three-goal run to make it a 13-10 game at the 22:56-mark. Hai began the run with an unassisted tally at the 26:56-mark before Baumann followed just over three minutes later. Fornoff capped the run with a free position shot goal 56 seconds later. The Lions were unable to get any closer as a Cougar free position shot goal ended the run at the 19:07-mark, making it 14-10. Taylor responded with her second goal of the game just 25 seconds later, but Kean took advantage of a Lions turnover to go up 15-11 at the 16:24-mark. Sophomore Lauren China took advantage of a man-up opportunity with her first goal of the game to cut the lead down to 15-12 at the 12:58-mark, and Baumann followed to make it a two-goal game with 7:23 left in regulation. Unfortunately for the Lions, the Cougars closed the game with three-straight goals to seal the win.

The Cougars held a 35-28 shot advantage for the game after out-shooting the Lions 25-12 in the first half. Kean held a 27-23 edge in shots on goal, a 19-15 advantage in ground balls, and a slight 17-15 edge in draw control wins. Junior goalkeeper Terae Mason suffered the loss after making nine saves in the full 60 minutes, while Cougars goalkeeper Josie Pagano earned the win after making 10 saves in the full time. Baumann recorded five points behind three goals and two assists, while grabbing a career-high 10 draw controls. Fornoff registered a season-high five points behind three goals and two assists, while Hai scored four goals in addition to dishing out her first collegiate assist. Danni LeSaint led the Cougars with a game-high nine goals behind going 6-of-6 on free position shots.
