OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Behind two first half goals, the Albright Lions field hockey team picked up a 2-1 victory on the road over Stevenson in MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday evening.
With the win, the Lions improve to 5-7 overall and 3-3 in MAC Commonwealth play after earning its second-straight win. Meanwhile, the Mustangs fall to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in conference action.
Albright went on the attack right away on the Mustangs as they drew three penalty corners in the first 1:33 of action. The Lions took advantage of the third one as first-year

Shannon Griffin to put Albright up 1-0. The Lions drew four more penalty corners in the first period as they continued to control play. Johnson struck once again in the 18th minute of the contest with her second goal of the game to put the Lions up 2-0. Stevenson began to finally generate pressure later in the second period as they rattled off five shots in the final five minutes of the first half. The Mustangs best chance came in in the 27th minute when they had back-to-back shots saved in front of the cage with one being a defensive save.
Following a pair of saved Albright shots, the Mustangs took advantage of a penalty corner opportunity in the 39th minute by scoring to cut the Lions lead down to 2-1. The Lions responded with a pair of decent scoring chances that were turned away by the Mustangs goalkeeper. Albright controlled play once again throughout the majority of the fourth quarter, and held on for the win. Stevenson had a penalty corner opportunity with 1:39 remaining in regulation, but was unable to get a shot off.
The Lions held a slight 12-8 edge in shots and an 11-6 edge in shots on goal. Albright also held a sizable 16-7 edge in penalty corners as well. Sophomore goalkeeper
Veronica Heckman earned the win after making four saves in the full 60 minutes of action. Meanwhile, Mustangs goalkeeper Rachel Barker suffered the loss after making nine saves in the full 60 minutes.
Albright will return to action on Wednesday, October 20th as they will host Widener for senior night at 7 p.m.
