READING, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer team fell short to Stevenson on Saturday afternoon as they suffered a 1-0 conference setback at Shirk Stadium.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-5 in MAC Commonwealth play and 3-10-1 overall. Meanwhile, the Mustangs remain undefeated in conference with a 4-0 MAC Commonwealth record and advances to 8-5-2 overall.
The Lions fell behind early as the Mustangs scored just four minutes into the game. Sophomore goalkeeper
Nick Barton made an impressive save from the initial shot, to which Stevenson capitalized on the rebound to claim the 1-0 lead. Senior
Yaniv Gonyoe had a scoring opportunity in the 31
st minute, but Mustang goalkeeper Kristian Slaby kept the Lions off the board. Barton continued to make three more saves throughout the first half to keep Albright within one entering halftime.
Sophomore
John Villano sent off the most promising shot for Albright in the 57
th minute as he fired off a long shot aiming for the top right corner of the net, but Slaby made the crucial save. First-year goalkeeper
Chris Denholm made a big save in the 60
th minute in an attempt to keep the Lions alive. However, Albright failed to get another shot off as Stevenson claimed the 1-0 conference victory.
Stevenson held a dominant 21-3 shot advantage and a 7-2 shot on goal advantage over Albright. Baron receives the loss for the Lions despite making four saves in 45 minutes of action while Denholm added two saves in 45 minutes of play. Slaby earns the win for the Mustangs with two saves in the full amount of action.
Albright will travel to Widener on Tuesday to continue MAC Commonwealth play at 7 p.m.
