Serpico's Goal Lifts Women's Soccer Over Stevenson, 1-0

READING, Pa. – The Albright women's soccer team picked up another conference win on Saturday afternoon as they shut out Stevenson 1-0 at Shirk Stadium.
 
With the win, the Lions improve to 2-3 in MAC Commonwealth action and 7-6-2 overall. Meanwhile, the Mustangs fall to 2-1-1 in conference and 4-5-5 overall.
 
Albright brought a tenacious energy out of the gate, registering seven first half shots to Stevenson's two. Senior Autumn Bieber posted the first shot on goal in the fifth minute of action that was stopped by Mustang goalkeeper Keegan Caffrey. First-year goalkeeper McKenna LeVan was put to the test in the tenth minute with a shot on goal from the Mustangs, but she stood tall in net to keep Stevenson scoreless. Senior Gabrielle Rhoads responded with a shot in the 11th minute that Caffrey stopped again. LeVan completed another crucial save in the 31st minute to keep the game scoreless entering the half.
 
Stevenson was eager for a goal coming out of the half, posting a shot on goal in the bottom left corner of the net that was stopped by LeVan. The Lions finally broke through in the 51st minute with a goal from junior Emily Serpico that was assisted by Bieber as they took the 1-0 lead. The two teams continued to battle hard throughout the second half, but two more crucial saves from LeVan would solidify the Lions 1-0 win over the Mustangs.
 
Albright held a 12-6 shot advantage over Stevenson as both teams managed to tally five shots on goal. LeVan earns the win for the Lions and her seventh shutout of the season with five saves in 90 minutes of play. Caffrey receives the loss for the Mustangs despite completing four saves in the full amount of action.
 
The Lions will continue conference play as they travel to Widener on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
