Men's Soccer Drops Conference Opener at Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer team suffered a 7-1 setback as they opened up MAC Commonwealth action at Lebanon Valley Saturday afternoon.
 
With the loss, the Lions begin conference play 0-1 and 3-6-1 overall. Meanwhile, the Dutchmen open up conference play 1-0 and 8-1 overall.
 
Lebanon Valley controlled the pace early, scoring the opening goal of the game in the third minute to take the lead. The Dutchmen netted another in the tenth minute to claim an early 2-0 lead over the Lions. Senior Yaniv Gonyoe finally got Albright on the board in the 15th minute with an unassisted goal to cut their deficit to 2-1. Unfortunately for Albright, this would be their lone goal of the game. Lebanon Valley continued to dominate the first half scoring three more goals to hold onto a 5-1 lead at the half.
 
The Dutchmen kept their momentum in the second half, finding the back of the net in the 48th and 61st minutes to bring their lead to 7-1. Senior Alex MacDonald had one of two second half opportunities to score in the 79th minute that ricocheted off the crossbar. The Lions were unable to recover from the Dutchmen's dominating efforts as they claimed the 7-1 victory.
 
Lebanon Valley held a sizable 24-5 shot advantage and a 12-2 shot on goal advantage over Albright. First-year goalkeeper Chris Denholm receives the loss for the Lions with one save in 45 minutes of play. Senior goalkeeper Sean Quirk did not need a single save to earn the win for the Dutchmen in 45 minutes of action.
 
Albright will return to Shirk Stadium Tuesday at 7 p.m. to continue conference action against Messiah.
