Men's Soccer Falls on Senior Night Against Eastern

READING, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer team's 2021 season came to a close as they fell 4-1 to Eastern at Shirk Stadium on Saturday evening. Prior to the contest Albright recognized the dedications and commitments of their nine graduating seniors.

Albright closes the 2021 season 0-8 in MAC Commonwealth play and 3-14-1 overall. Eastern finishes their season 4-4 in conference and 10-5-2 overall.

Eastern commanded the game from the start with 10-3 first half shot advantage over Albright. The Eagles took the 1-0 lead on just their second shot of the game in the tenth minute of action. Senior Brendan Hanratty had the first opportunity on net for the Lions, firing off a shot behind a free kick that Eastern goalkeeper Diesel Fiore put a stop to. The Eagles responded with back-to-back shots on goal that sophomore goalkeeper Hunter Stump saved. Eastern took a two-goal lead in the 18th minute as they capitalized on Stump who found himself out of position from the goal. Hanratty and senior Yaniv Gonyoe had other scoring opportunities in the first half that went wide as Eastern held onto the 2-0 lead entering the half.

The Eagles came out of the break firing away, as they scored back-to-back goals in the 49th and 50th minutes that put the Lions in a four-goal deficit. First-year Brendan Markey gave the Lions hope when he netted his first career goal in the 63rd minute off a feed from Gonyoe. Gonyoe got two more shots off for the Lions, but one was blocked and Eagles goalkeeper Tyler Shearin was able to stop the other. Unfortunately for Albright, they were unable to end their season on a high note as they fell 4-1 to Eastern.

Eastern held a dominant 23-8 shot advantage and 12-3 shot on goal advantage over Albright. Stump receives the loss for Albright with two saves in 52:59 minutes of action. Fiore earns the win for Eastern with one save in 45 minutes of play.
