NAPLES, Fla. – The Albright men's basketball team suffered a 74-54 loss to Berry to conclude the D3 Naples Shootout on Monday.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 3-6 overall while the Vikings improve to 8-1.
Senior
Sidney Brown led Albright in scoring with nine points on 3-for-11 shooting from the field and 3-for-10 from beyond the arc. Junior
Jordan Guerrero tallied eight points on 3-for-10 shooting from the floor and 2-for-7 from the three-point line, a game-high eight rebounds, and three assists. Senior
Isaiah Harris and sophomore
Chris Kouemi added eight points apiece, both shooting 4-for-6 from the floor.
After a back-and-forth start to the game, Albright took a 9-7 lead at the 16:53-mark after Guerrero knocked down a three. Berry took the lead after scoring back-to-back baskets, to which Albright's
Sean Miller tied the game back up at 11 with a bucket at the 15:49-mark. From there the Vikings stole the momentum and netted 14 unanswered points to claim a 25-11 lead with ten minutes left in the first half. Senior
Deion Booker finally snapped the run for Albright with a jumper at the 9:48-mark, but Berry responded with a 12-2 run to pull ahead by 22-points. The Lions finally found their footing and went on a 13-0 run, sparked by back-to-back threes from Brown and Miller and capped off with a layup by Harris, to cut their deficit down to nine. The Vikings sank two free-throws to close out the half with a 39-28 lead.
Berry opened up the second half with an 11-3 run that put them ahead of the Lions by 19-points. Consecutive baskets from junior
Zyon Grant and Kouemi cut the Lions deficit to 50-36 at the 12:14-mark. Kouemi then sparked an 11-1 run for the Lions to get them within reach of the Vikings, bringing the score to 55-47 with 7:46 left to play. Unfortunately for Albright, Berry took the momentum back and went on a 19-6 run throughout the final minutes of action to solidify their 74-54 win.
Albright shot 22-for-63 (34.9%) from the floor, 7-for-26 (26.9%) from beyond the arc, and 3-for-3 (100%) from the charity stripe. The Lions saw 17 points off the bench and won the battle on the glass 42-36. Meanwhile, Berry shot 25-for-58 (43.1%) from the field, 4-for-20 (20%) from beyond the arc, and 20-for-27 (74.1%) from the charity stripe. The Vikings converted 21 points off Albright turnovers and saw 24 points off their bench.
The Lions return to action as they host Salisbury in the Double Tree Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29 at 4 p.m. in the Bollman Center.
