CHESTER, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's basketball team dropped a 90-69 contest to Widener on the road in MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday afternoon.
 
With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-2 overall and in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Pride improve to 4-0 overall and in conference play as they took both games of the home-and-home series with the Lions.
 
Junior 
Abby Gaffney posted 16 points for the second-straight night as she went 8-of-13 from the field. Gaffney also tallied a team-high four assists along with four rebounds. Classmate 
Amina Rauf matched Gaffney with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, while adding three steals and one rebound. Junior 
Maggie O'Hare recorded 14 points along with four rebounds, and 
Gabby Boggs nearly missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
 
Both teams started strong from the field as the teams traded the lead five times in the opening 2:43 of the first quarter. Albright led 6-5 at the 8:01-mark of the first quarter before the Pride went on a 13-2 run to go up 18-8 at the 4:58-mark. Widener went 5-of-6 from the field during that stretch as they forced a Lions timeout.  Down 21-12 with 2:53 remaining in the first quarter, the Lions clawed back in the game as they ended the quarter on a 9-2 run to make it 23-21. Albright continued its run into the second quarter by taking a 25-23 lead at the 8:46-mark. Following some more back and forth action that left Widener up 36-34, the Pride seized control of play by closing the first half on an 11-2 run to take a 47-36 advantage at halftime.
 
Widener continued to stay red hot into the third quarter as they extended their lead out to 14 points at 55-41 with 6:45 remaining. A jumper from Rauf brought the Lions within 12 points, but that would be as close as they would get for the remainder of the third quarter. Widener went on a 17-4 run that spanned nearly five minutes to take a 72-47 lead, their largest of the contest. Albright began to rally as they opened the fourth quarter on a 13-6 run to cut the Pride advantage down to 80-65. However, the Lions made just two field goals the rest of the way as Widener pulled back away to earn the 21-point win.
 
The Lions shot 42.9 percent (27-of-63) from the field and 37.5 percent (6-of-16) from three-point range. Albright went a solid 9-of-10 (90%) from the free throw line and forced 16 Pride turnovers with 10 coming in the second half. Meanwhile, the Pride shot 51.5 percent (35-of-68) from the field and 10-of-20 (50%) from three-point range. Widener went 10-of-11 (90.9%) from the free throw line and dominated the glass for the second-straight night as they held a 44-26 rebound advantage.
 
Gianna Samuels led the Pride with a game-high 18 points behind going 4-of-8 from three-point range. Jordan D'Ambrosio posted 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, while Kyra Schenk registered her second double-double in two nights with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Albright will return to action on Thursday, February 25
th as they will host Delaware Valley in MAC crossover action at 7 p.m.
