READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions baseball team was swept by Lebanon Valley in its MAC Commonwealth opening doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Kelchner Field. The Lions dropped game one 10-2 before falling 12-3 in seven innings during game two.
With the losses, the Lions drop to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Dutchmen improve to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
GAME ONE
Lions senior starting pitcher
Shaun O'Reilly struggled with his command in the top of the first as he walked the bases loaded with one out. A sacrifice fly gave the Dutchmen the early 1-0 lead before a pair of pickoffs prevented more damage. Albright looked to respond in the bottom of the second inning as a pair of singles from juniors
Josh Jacavage and
Dylan Harlos opened the frame. However, a double play ended the threat two batters later. Albright put two more batters on with two outs in the bottom of the fourth before a strikeout closed the inning. The Dutchmen blew the game open in the top of the fifth by scoring eight runs on seven hits. Albright finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh off a two-run single from Jacavage to bring the final score to 10-2.
GAME TWO
Each team went 1-2-3 in the first inning before the Dutchmen jumped on the Lions early again in the top of the second as they scored five runs on four hits. Lebanon Valley tallied four doubles in the inning with three of them producing runs scored. The Dutchmen added four more runs an inning later to take a commanding 9-0 lead, highlighted by a bases-clearing three-run double with two outs. Albright continued to struggles to get anything going offensively, and the Dutchmen added to its lead in the top of the fifth off a leadoff home run. Lebanon Valley posted two more runs in the top of the sixth inning behind a Lions error. The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the sixth following three walks to make it a 12-2 game. Albright added its last run off a bases loaded situation in the bottom of the seventh as the game was stopped due to darkness.
