READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's lacrosse team suffered a 24-6 loss to Misericordia on Saturday afternoon in MAC crossover play at Shirk Stadium.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-2 overall as they played their first game at Shirk Stadium since March 5
th, 2020. Meanwhile, the Cougars of the MAC Freedom improve to 2-0 overall.
Misericordia opened the game with a man-up goal at the 13:03-mark of the first quarter before the Lions responded 41 seconds later to tie the game at one off a goal from junior
Alex McKendry. The Cougars took advantage of a Lions turnover to go back up 2-1, but Albright again had an answer as junior
Eric Broadway scored at the 10:53-mark to knot the score at two. The Lions responded to one more Cougars goal as senior
John Gilbert got on the board at the 7:52-mark before the Cougars gained control with five-straight goals to go up 8-3 at the end of the first quarter. Misericordia continued its scoring run with a goal just 32 seconds in to the second quarter to take a 9-3 lead. The Cougars added three more goals over the span of 2:12 to take a 13-3 advantage at the 4:25-mark of the second quarter. Broadway snapped the Cougars goal run with his second tally of the game at the 3:48-mark, but Misericordia responded nearly two minutes later with a goal to go up 14-4. Gilbert followed with his second goal of the game at the 1:15-mark before the Cougars tallied one last goal before the half off a rebound from a saved shot.
The Cougars quickly added five goals in the first 3:55 of the second half to extend its lead to 20-5 at the 11:05-mark. Broadway notched his third goal of the game off a man-up situation to make it a 20-6 game before Misericordia responded to go back up 21-6 at the 8:31-mark. Albright struggled to get anything going offensively in the fourth quarter as Misericordia closed the game with a trio of goals.
Misericordia held a 62-28 overall shot advantage for the game, and a 34-14 edge in shots on goal. The Cougars won the ground ball battle at 49-43 and forced 28 Lion turnovers. Albright won 19 of the 32 faceoffs on the afternoon. Sophomore goalkeeper
Ethan Hinman suffered the loss in his first collegiate start after making six saves in 30 minutes. Cougars goalkeeper Chris Straub earned the win for the Cougars after making four saves in 30 minutes of action. Broadway led the Lions with three goals and Gilbert notched two tallies. Junior
Cole Genneken added two assists while senior
Connor Graser matched his career-high of 11 ground balls along with dishing out one assist. Patrick Luzzi led the Cougars with nine points behind four goals and five assists.
The Lions will return to action on Wednesday, March 17
th as they will travel to take on Messiah at 7 p.m. to open conference play.
