READING, Pa. – The Albright softball team was swept in a doubleheader by Hood on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth play at the Albright College Softball Field. The Lions were downed 8-1 in game one before falling 12-0 in five innings during game two.
After the losses, the Lions fall to 0-6 overall and in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Blazers improved to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
GAME ONE
The Blazers quickly put two runners on base following a hit by pitch and a double to open the game. Following back-to-back outs, a single to right field brought home both runners to give Hood the early 2-0 lead. The Lions were retired in order in the first two innings as the Blazers extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the third on a ground out, and two-out single. Hood took a commanding 8-0 lead in the top of the fourth on five hits, all coming with two outs. The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the fourth as senior

Brooke Franklin led off the bottom of the fifth with a single to center, but would be doubled off on first after first-year
Kathryn Baptiste lined a ball to second base. The Lions stranded three Blazer runners between the sixth and seventh innings, and loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Unfortunately for Albright, a pop out ended the game.
GAME TWO
Hood once again jumped on the Lions early as they scored 12 runs off just four hits along with three errors. The Blazers saw their first eight runners reach base and scored eight of the runs with two outs. The Blazers looked to extend its lead in the top of the second as they put runners on first and third base with one out, but the Lions escaped without any damage. First-year
Jaime Dagostino tallied the Lions first hit in the bottom of the third before back-to-back outs ended the inning. Hood put runners on first and third base with one out, but were unable to extend its lead once again. Chell singled up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Once again, the Lions could not get a two-out rally going as a groundout ended the threat. Hood added four more runs in the top of the fifth on four hits before the Lions were retired in order to end the game in the bottom of the fifth.

Laura Costello went the distance in game one as she suffered the loss after surrendering eight runs (all earned) on 10 hits. Chell and Franklin each tallied two hits between the two games on Saturday. Baptiste suffered the loss in game two after starting the contest and being removed in the first inning after one out. Between the two games, Cailyn Barthlow led the Blazers by going 4-of-8 from the plate by going 4-of-7 from the plate, tallied three RBIs, and scored four runs.
The Lions will return to action on Monday, March 29
th as they will conclude their four-game set with the Blazers on the road.
