Second Half Dooms Men's Lacrosse in 17-9 Loss to Hood

READING, Pa. – The Albright men's lacrosse team suffered a 17-9 loss to the Hood Blazers Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth play at Shirk Stadium.
 
With the loss the Lions fall to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in MAC Conference play. The Blazers advance to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in conference.
 
The Lions came out of the gate firing away with senior Connor Graser putting the first goal of the game on the board at the 13:12-mark of the first quarter. Junior Jacob Cunningham followed with a goal of his own to put the Lions up two at the 10:33-mark. Hood responded with their first goal of the game to cut their deficit to one. Albright scored the next three goals featuring first-year Jon Alvarez, Cunningham, and junior Cole Genneken to put the Lions up 5-1 with 2:45 left in the first quarter. Hood closed out the first stanza with back-to-back goals to cut their deficit to 5-3. The Blazers went on a three-goal run to start the second stanza to give them a 6-5 lead with 7:20 left in the half. Cunningham tied the game back up at 6 with his third goal of the game at the 4:42-mark. However, this was the Lions only goal of the third quarter as the Blazers went on another three-goal run to close out the half, bringing the score to 9-6.
 
Hood kept their momentum rolling in the second half scoring five goals scoring five goals and keeping Albright scoreless in the third quarter to bring their lead to 14-6. The Blazers capitalized on a man-up opportunity and scored the first goal of the fourth stanza after an Albright penalty. Genneken finally snapped the Blazer's run with the feed from junior Eric Broadway at the 8:07-mark of the fourth quarter bringing the score to 15-7. Hood, again, responded with back-to-back goals to bring their lead to 17-7. The Lions closed out the game with back-to-back goals from Broadway and junior Alex McKendry to bring the final score to 17-9.
 
Despite the loss, Albright held a slight 46-41 shot advantage over Hood and forced them into 26 turnovers. The Lions also won the battle for ground balls 42-37. Hood held a slight 16-14 advantage for face offs. Sophomore goalkeeper Liam Ferry receives the loss for the Lions after making seven saves in 48:19 minutes of play. Senior goalkeeper Trenton Lazorchak receives the win for the Blazers with 15 saves in 55:38 minutes of play. Cunningham led Albright in scoring with a career-high three goals and one assist for four points on the afternoon. Genneken added two goals for two points, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Senior Bentley LeBarron and first-year Will Sweeney lead the Blazers with five goals apiece.
 
Albright returns to play on Wednesday, April 14 as they take on Widener in MAC Commonwealth play at Shirk Stadium at 6pm.
