Women's Lacrosse Dominates Alvernia, 19-8

READING, Pa – The Albright women's lacrosse team earned a dominant 19-8 win over the Alvernia Golden Wolves on Wednesday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth play Shirk Stadium.
 
The Lions advance to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in MAC Commonwealth play while the Golden Wolves fall to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
 
Alvernia opened the first half by scoring back-to-back goals to take an early 2-0 lead. Junior Ashleigh Tortorice got the Lions started on a four-goal run at the 25:12-mark of the first half. Goals from first-year Brianna Kung and back-to-back tallies from junior Abbie Moist added to the Lions 4-2 lead at the 18:34 mark. Alvernia snapped the run at the 15:47-mark to cut their deficit to one at 4-3. Junior Lauren China got the Lions rolling again with back-to-back goals to put the Lions up 6-3. Sophomore Chloe Fornoff continued the Albright's run and put the Lion's up 7-3 with 12:53 left in the first half. Albright continued to dominate the first half as they scored the next five goals to bring their lead to 12-3 at the half.
 
The Lions continued picked up where they left off to start the second half as Abbie Moist registered her third goal on the game to bring the Lions' lead to 13-3 at the 29:40-mark. Alvernia responded with a three-goal run of their own to cut their deficit to 13-6 with 25:47 left in the game. First-year Katelyn Patrick put an end to their run with her first goal of the game at the 17:41-mark. The two teams traded goals and Alvernia registered their final goal of the game at the 15:09-mark bringing the score to 15-8. Albright put the game away with a four-goal run featuring two goals from China and two from Patrick to give the Lions the 19-8 win.
 
Albright dominated in almost every statistical category, edging Alvernia 44-22 in shots, 25-11 in ground balls, 21-7 in draw controls, and 11-3 in caused turnovers. The Lions had a near perfect 12-13 clear completed. Senior goalkeeper Terae Mason earned the win for the Lions with seven saves in 60 minutes of play. Sophomore goalkeeper Kirsten Lake earns the loss for the Golden Wolves despite making nine saves in 30 minutes of play. China led the Lions in scoring with five goals, one assist, six points, two ground balls, one caused turnover, and two draw controls. Patrick and Abbie Moist each added five points with three goals and two assists. Fornoff registered two goals, three ground balls, and a game-high and career-high eight draw controls. Kung added two goals while Tortorice added one goal and one assist for two points each.
 
The Albright women's lacrosse team is back in action on Saturday, April 10th at 1 p.m. as they travel to Hood to continue MAC Commonwealth play.
