READING, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer team was defeated 2-0 by Arcadia at Shirk Stadium Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-3-1 overall while the Knights advance to 2-3.
Albright applied pressure on Arcadia's defense early, earning a corner in the first minute of the game. Sophomore
John Villano had an opportunity off the corner that an Arcadia defender deflected out of the net. Arcadia then got back-to-back shots off until finally finding the back of the net in the 19
th minute to claim a 1-0 lead. Sophomore goalkeeper
Hunter Stump made a big save in the 32
nd minute to keep the Knights from building their lead. Arcadia held onto the 1-0 lead heading into the half.
Arcadia controlled the pace in the second half with a 12-1 shot advantage over Albright. Villano got the lone shot off of the second half in the 50
th minute that went over the net. Arcadia continued to fire off shots and finally scored again in the 79
th minute. The Knights took a shot outside of the box off a free kick, to which Stump initially saved, but an Arcadia player followed the shot and scored off the rebound to solidify their 2-0 win.
The Knights held a 19-6 shot advantage over the Lions and an 8-3 shots on goal advantage. Stump receives the loss for Albright with six saves in 90 minutes of action. Senior goalkeeper Jake Verrato receives the win for Arcadia with two saves in 90 minutes of play.
Albright continues their non-conference schedule Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Penn College at Shirk Stadium.
