Ferry Inducted into Berks County Chapter of PA Sports Hall of Fame

READING, Pa. – Albright Athletics Co-Athletic Director and Head Men's Basketball Coach, Rick Ferry, was inducted into the Berks County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday night.

Ferry was one of eight inductees in the 2021 Berks County Chapter class. "I truly appreciate this prestigious honor," said Ferry.  "To be included with so many great athletes and coaches in Berks County is something I never imagined could happen."

In his 20 seasons at the helm of the Albright Men's Basketball team, Ferry has amassed a 281-226 record which ranks him second all-time in program history for wins. Ferry arrived at Albright in 2001 and inherited an Albright team that had been struggling in the past decade. In just his third season, he guided the Lions to a MAC Commonwealth Tournament appearance, and a first place finish in the regular season standings. The following year in 2004-05, Ferry guided the Lions to their first MAC Commonwealth Tournament title since 1977, and NCAA Division III Tournament appearance since 1980. Ferry led the Lions to win his second MAC Commonwealth title as head coach in 2009-10 along with making another NCAA Tournament appearance. In 2017-18, the Lions made their third NCAA Tournament appearance under Ferry after finishing runner-up in the Commonwealth. Ferry recently won his third MAC Commonwealth title as head coach in the shortened 2021 season after defeating Lebanon Valley 82-77 in March.

Along with the three conference titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances, the Lions have qualified for the MAC Commonwealth Tournament 14 times and also have appeared in five ECAC Tournaments as well. Ferry has been named MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year three times in his Albright career (2004, 2005, 2018). He has coached three players to earn DIII News All-American honors, eight D3hoops.com All-Region selections, six NABC All-District selections, four MAC Commonwealth Players of the Year, and 20 different players to All-MAC Commonwealth selections. Ferry is currently in his second stint on the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball committee, and a current board member of the Reading Berks Basketball Association (RBBA).

In addition to his duties as the Lions' men's basketball coach, he was named Co-Athletic Director of Albright College alongside Janice Luck in 2008.

In addition to his coaching career at Albright, Ferry was also recognized after a stellar career as a player at nearby Wilson High School in the early 80's. Following his time at Wilson, Ferry attended Susquehanna University to continue his education and playing career. While at Susquehanna he helped the Crusaders qualify for the MAC playoffs three times, and in 1984 earned a trip to the NCAA Sweet 16.

Ferry earned his MBA at Ohio University in 1988. During that time, he interned on Wall Street with Chase Manhattan Bank. Ferry graduated in the spring of 1989 with his MBA, and in September returned to Susquehanna to begin his coaching career Ferry worked for seven seasons as an assistant coach at Susquehanna. Among his many duties, he built a junior varsity program that fed a very successful varsity team for the Crusaders. In 1996 Ferry accepted his first head coaching position, taking the job at Juniata College. He took over a program in disarray and, through a lengthy rebuilding process, led the program back to respectability before arriving at Albright.
