READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's tennis team fell 6-3 to Juniata in their first dual match of the 2021-22 season on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Lions open their 2021 season 0-1 as they began the non-conference portion of their schedule. Meanwhile, the Eagles of the Landmark Conference improve to 3-0 overall.
Juniata captured all three of the doubles points to take an early 3-0 lead in the match. At the first doubles spot, Juniata's William Michelson and Seth Strawser defeated the Lions duo of junior
Arpit Gainder and senior
Trent Tyer. First-year
Kobe Serpa and senior
Ron Andanje were defeated in the No. 2 doubles spot by Utsav Deravariya and Ezenna Emuka 8-4, while the duo of first-year
Clay Lewandowski and junior
Mike Vogt fell 8-1 at the No. 3 doubles spot to Keisuke Maeda and Nate Whelan.
In singles, Gainder defeated Michelson 4-6, 6-2 (10-8) in the No. 1 spot while Serpa fell 6-0, 6-0 to Strawser in the No. 2 spot. Tyer took down Maeda 6-2, 4-6 (10-8) in the No. 3 spot before Lewandowski defeated Emuka 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot. At the No. 5 spot, Whelan defeated Vogt 6-2, 6-1 and Andanje suffered a 6-2, 6-3 setback to Deravariya at the No.6 spot.
The Lions will return to action on Thursday, September 30th as they will continue their match against Lancaster Bible at 3:30 after their previous match on Wednesday was suspended.
