READING, Pa. - The Albright Lions field hockey team fell 1-0 in double overtime to Scranton on Tuesday night at Shirk Stadium in non-conference action.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 3-4 overall on the season.
The first quarter was a defensive struggle as Scranton recorded three shots in the opening 15 minutes, but could not find the back of the cage. Lions junior goalkeeper
Adele Thomas made a tough save in the 17th minute during the second quarter to keep the game scoreless. Albright was finally able to generate pressure on the cage in the 28th minute as first-year
Lamya Mejias had back-to-back shots saved in front. The shots helped draw the first penalty corner of the game for the Lions, and sophomore
Laurel Gingrich had a high shot batted away off a penalty corner to send the game scoreless into halftime.
There were no shots recorded in the third quarter between the two teams and the Royals were unable to take advantage of a penalty corner in the final minute of play during the quarter. First-year
Jenna Crosby had the lone shot of the fourth quarter between the two teams go wide for the Lions in the 51st minute. Scranton nearly ended the game into the 65th minute during the first overtime as they had a breakaway opportunity shot wide right of the cage. The Lions received a penalty corner in the 68th minute and sophomore
Morgan Kopcik sent a shot just wide left of the cage from the right circle. The Royals had a shot off a decent scoring chance go wide left in the 72nd minute during the second overtime. Scranton ended the game in the 75th minute on a shot that found its way through traffic in the circle.
The Royals held a slight 8-6 shot advantage for the contest and both teams each recorded three shots on goal. Albright held a 4-3 edge in penalty corners. Thomas made two saves in the loss during the full 74:18 of action.
Albright returns to action on Thursday, September 30th as they will travel to face No. 17 Susquehanna at 7 p.m.
