DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Behind three goals in the fourth quarter, the Albright field hockey team defeated Delaware Valley in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play.
With the win, the Lions picked up their first win of the season as they improved to 1-2 overall. Meanwhile, the Aggies of the MAC Freedom fell to 0-3 overall.
Albright jumped on the Aggies early as they registered four shots in the first 10 minutes of action. The Lions continued to create chances on net, but were unable to break through as the first quarter went scoreless. The Lions continued to control play as they earned three penalty corner opportunities in the first five minutes of the second quarter. First-year
Amanda Smith finally got the Lions on the board in the 20 minute as she scored her first collegiate goal following a penalty corner opportunity. Albright held the 1-0 advantage into the half as junior goalkeeper
Adele Thomas made two saves late in the first half.
Thomas had to come up big again to start the third quarter as she turned away two shots in the 33rd minute of play. First-year
Olivia Lorah nearly extended the Lions lead on multiple occasions in the 34th minute before being turned away both times. However, the Lions wasted little time to extend the lead in the fourth quarter as junior
Megan Keller scored 31 seconds in to make it a 2-0 game. Just over a minute later, Lorah registered her first collegiate goal to put the Lions up 3-0. Albright continued to pepper the Aggies net, and added one last goal in the 57th minute when first-year
Chelsea Johnson became the third Lion to score her first collegiate goal.
The Lions held a 22-8 advantage in shots and a 15-7 edge in shots on goal. Albright also held a 7-0 edge in penalty corner opportunities. Thomas earned the win after making seven saves in the full 60 minutes of action. Meanwhile, Alyssa Rudd suffered the loss for Delaware Valley after making 11 saves in 60 minutes.
Albright will return to action on Saturday, September 11th as they will travel to face Susquehanna at 1 p.m.
