READING, Pa. - The Albright women's soccer team (2-10-4, 1-4-1 MAC Commonwealth) dropped a home match against Widener University (7-4-4, 3-1-1 MAC Commonwealth) on Tuesday night in a crucial MAC Commonwealth contest at Shirk Stadium. Widener took the match by a final score of 1-0 and distanced themselves from Albright in the MAC Commonwealth standings.
Throughout the first half both teams tried to establish themselves in the middle sector of the pitch. The Lions had the best opportunity of the half when a Emily Serpico header sailed just over the crossbar.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes, sending the game into halftime knotted up at 0-0.
The game remained scoreless until the 83rd minute of play. Off a corner kick, Nicole Buonavolta slotted the ball through the Albright defense for the game winning goal.
Alexis Solt was solid in the goal tonight for the Lions keeping Albright in the game. Solt finished with five saves on the night.
Despite the Loss Albright did not lose any ground in the MAC Commonwealth playoff race due to Hood College losing to Messiah tonight. Albright remains just three points out of a playoff spot with three games to play. For the full MAC Commonwealth standings click here.
