Field Hockey Wins Crucial Conference Matchup Against LVC

Annville, PA - The Albright Lions defeated Lebanon Valley Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-1. The win moves the Lions to 6-9 on the season, and 3-4 in conference play. LVC is now 7-9 and 3-4.

Lebanon Valley controlled the  game in the first quarter, outshooting the Lions 7-1. But Albright goalie Veronica Heckman stopped everything sent in her direction, keeping the game scoreless headed into the second quarter. Albright would start the scoring when Shannon Griffin put a shot past the LVC goalie early in the quarter. Then, with just over a minute left in the half, Chelsea Johnson found the back of the net off of a pass from Olivia Lorah, putting the Lions up 2-0 headed into the half.

Just over three minutes into the second half, Lamya Mejia increased the Lions lead to 3-0. Megan Keller and Griffin each had an assist on the goal. LVC would get one back later in the third quarter, but never got any closer.

Lebanon Valley outshot the Lions 12-8 in the game, while both teams took seven penalty corners. Heckman made seven saves for the Lions.

The win for the Lions had major playoff implications, as it now puts both Albright and LVC at 3-4 in conference play, tied for the fifth and final playoff spot. The Lions will take on 8th place Eastern in their final conference match, while LVC takes on first place Messiah.

After the game, Coach Co said "today our team showed up to play and really fought hard. I was really impressed with how we made the most of our opportunities and put two nice goals in during the first half. V made some incredible saves this game to keep us ahead while Amanda Smith really stepped up in the backfield. It was a great team win and puts us one win closer to our team goal of making the playoffs!"

Up Next - The Lions will play a non-conference match at home on Monday, October 24th against Stockton University. That game wil start at 7pm.
