ST. MARY'S CITY, MD. - The Albright women's basketball team (7-5, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) was in action for the final time of 2022 and ended the year on a high note with a dominating 75-49 victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland (5-4) on Tuesday evening.
The Lions have now won seven games on the season and six of those seven wins have been by at least 10 points.
Albright trailed 4-2 in the very early going of the game but the small deficit quickly evaporated courtesy of strong shooting. The Lions shot 56.3% from the floor in the first quarter on their way to an early 21-13 lead.
The two teams played an even second quarter each scoring 14 points in the frame. The Lions led by eight after two quarters and continued to play an inspired brand of basketball.
Mackenzie Dover poured in 13 first half points on five of six shooting from the floor including draining three three pointers. Amina Rauf chipped in with nine first half points and pulled down four rebounds.
Albright's lead grew to 13 after thirty minutes of play. A 9-2 run midway through the third quarter propelled Albright into the fourth quarter and ultimately to victory.
The Lions scored 21 fourth quarter points and held the Seahawks to 23.1% shooting in the fourth quarter. 18 points was the margin for Albright over St. Mary's College of Maryland in the second half helping the Lions earn a convincing 75-49 victory.
For the game Albright hauled in 16 offensive rebounds and scored 28 points in the paint. The defense held the Seahawks to 33.9% shooting from the floor and were forced into 20 turnovers by Albright.
Rauf finished as the games leading scorer with 22 points. Rauf also collected nine rebounds and dished out four assists.
Gabby Boggs scored 15 points, had nine rebounds and three steals while Dover rounded out the Lions in double figures scoring 13 and adding four steals.
