Men's Basketball Set to Travel to Hood for MAC Commonwealth Quarterfinals

READING, Pa. – The Albright men's basketball team is set to travel to Hood for the quarterfinals of the MAC Commonwealth tournament tomorrow, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m.
 
Tickets:  The MAC mandates the prices for adults at $6, senior citizens at $4, and children $2, and for children under 6 with an adult are free. All tickets can be purchased at the door. Fans are encouraged to visit Hood's most updated spectator policies in regards to masking and COVID-19.

MAC Commonwealth Tournament: Albright is the No. 7 seed in the tournament and will travel to the No. 2 seed Hood. The winner will face either the No. 6 seed Widener or the No. 3 seed Alvernia on Friday, Feb. 25th for the semifinal round. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 27th
 
Records: Albright enters the tournament with a 10-14 overall record and 6-10 in conference play. The Lions closed out the regular season with a 91-88 overtime loss at Stevenson on Saturday. Hood enters postseason action 17-6 overall and 14-2 in the MAC Commonwealth.
 
Scouting the Lions: Albright ranks sixth in the MAC Commonwealth in points per game with 70.9 and third in three-point field goals made with 7.5 per game. The Lions offense is fueled by senior Sidney Brown who ranks third in the conference in threes per game with 2.8 and fifth in scoring with 15.5 points per game. Brown is also a top defender in the conference, ranking third in steals with 2.3 per game. Junior Sean Miller runs the point for Albright and ranks sixth in the Commonwealth in assists per game with 3.3 and eighth in assists to turnover ration with 1.3. Junior Jordan Guerrero ranks eighth in the conference in blocks with 17 on the season and leads Albright in rebounding with 5.9 per game. Junior Robert Mangum has made a big impact for the Lions reaching double figures in scoring six of the last seven games and shooting 52.5% from the floor.
 
Lions in the Playoffs: The Lions have made an appearance in the postseason the past five seasons and captured the MAC Commonwealth title in the 2021 season. Albright claimed an 82-77 victory over Lebanon Valley in the MAC Commonwealth championship game during the shortened 2021 season to earn the program's first conference title since 2010.
 
Scouting the Blazers: Hood currently paces the MAC Commonwealth in points per game (81.9), three-point percentage (38.1%), threes made per game (13.1), assists (16.04), and assist to turnover ratio (1.32). The Blazers offense is led by senior twin brothers Mason and Evan Wang. Mason leads the conference in scoring with 22.8 points per game and threes per game at 3.3. Evan, averaging 14.5 points per game, paces the conference in assist to turnover ratio at 2.3 and ranks second in three-point percentage with 47.1%.
 
The Blazers in the Playoffs: This will be Hood's fifth all-time appearance in the MAC Commonwealth tournament since joining the conference in 2012. This will be the first playoff game Hood has hosted since 2014. Their last postseason game resulted in an 80-78 first round loss to Lycoming in 2020.
 
Series: The all-time series between the two teams is even at 10-10 dating back to their first matchup in 2005. Hood has won the last three contests with the most recent being an 85-72 victory on Jan. 29 in Frederick, Md. The Lions have defeated the Blazers just three times on the road.
 
Last Meeting: Albright lost a hard-fought game on Saturday at Stevenson and could not overcome the Mustangs shooting in the third quarter as they outscored the Lions 23-9. The Lions fought back from a 19-point deficit to bring them within eight points with five minutes remaining, but that was the closest they would get.
 
Head Coaches: Rick Ferry has posted a 291-240 record in 21 seasons as the head coach of Albright. This is his 15th MAC Commonwealth Tournament appearance for the Lions at the helm of the men's basketball program. Ferry has captured three conference titles in his career at Albright.
 
Chad Dickman is in his seventh season as head coach of the Blazers and posts an overall record of 90-63. Dickman has led Hood to three of their five all-time MAC Commonwealth postseason appearances, including a semifinal round matchup in 2019.
 
Up Next: The winner will advance to the semifinals of the MAC Commonwealth Tournament on Friday, Feb. 25th and face either the No. 6 seed Widener or the No. 3 seed Alvernia.
